Who was the last #1 preseason SI rated team to lose a season home opener?
I'm guessing Miami Fla or Florida State. They have been playing against each other to start the season lately and that is probably the most likely.

#1 and #18, this is NIU"s golden opportunity to make a huge impact on the national stage, the Huskies win these 2 games and sweep the conference we have to go BCS bowling.

I just re-read this. SI preseason #1 is the question. SI does alot of stupid things, so this changes everything.
I'm going with Oregon State in 2001. They were SI's preseason #1 and lost at Fresno State in the season opener. I believe Oregon State didn't even have a winning record that year.

Plus about 5-6 years back they had Arizona #1 and they were horrible that year.

last line of the article:
"We'll find out plenty about OSU quickly enough: The Buckeyes are at Texas on Sept. 9."
Let's hope this is what the tOSU players are thinking about as well come Sep 2nd.

I know that the year before Auburn did good they were #1 in a preseason poll....it was either SI or sporting news. I know that season they started 0-3. Now I think about it, it probably was sporting news that had them #1.

Got to love that pre-season optimism!
