I did a search on scout and found 36 out of region (nonMAC or nonBig10 states)BCS programs (plus non bCS) are either recruiting or have offered Illinois HS football talent!

These teams don't want to come to DeKalb to play NIU but they'll recruit IL talent. Some of these programs include USC, UCLA, Texas, Hawaii,New Mexico, Kansas, Kansas St, AZ, Colorado, Colorado St, Mississippi, MIssissippi, LSU, North Carolina, NC St, Duke, BC, Rutgers, UConn, Iowa St, OK St, TN, Lousiville!

As if USC, Texas and TN need to recruit Chicago area for talent 01-lauramac2 01-lauramac2 01-lauramac2 04-chairshot 05-mafia

NIU doesn't compete for the same recruits as USC, Texas and TN though.

That is an interesting comment. What if some/all those teams DIDN'T recruit Illinois? Do you think we could compete for more of them then? I do.
Hardly.
A few .... far and in between - perhaps - once facilities and scheduling improve.

If we weren't competing against teams from deep recruiting areas that really don't need to recruit here you don't think we would get more? Let's take out the teams we have no shot against from those areas USC, UCLA, Texas, LSU and Tennessee(I don't know much about TN recruiting so I could be wrong with this one). What is left? Do you not think we could compete with many of the left over teams? There are some more difficult than others. Big12 teams and AZ being the most difficult but not impossible.

Hawaii,New Mexico, Kansas, Kansas St, AZ, Colorado, Colorado St, Mississippi, MIssissippi, North Carolina, NC St, Duke, BC, Rutgers, UConn, Iowa St, OK St, Lousiville
So, I'm somehow supposed to be surprised that they look at Illinois high school players? Am I supposed to be outraged? I don't get what the big deal is. It's the reality of recruiting and has probably been this way for a few years and we've still been pulling our share of the quality Illinois players.
You could say the same thing about any other highly populated region in the U.S., when your talking about schools this big, I'm sure they recruit the Texas are, Florida area and the New York city area too; did you do a search of those areas ?. Just like we got Billy Lowe from Florida, schools have to leave their area to do their recruiting sometimes.

No offense but this thread isn't very well thought out, and also this isn't new, its not like USC just realized that Chicago is a large city in the middle of America, I'm sure they've been recruiting here for a very long time, the fact you just realized these schools are recruiting here does not mean they haven't been for the last 20 years and we've been doing just fine.

Of course. Just like Mr Rocket said, it is the real world. I was just mentioning "a non-real world situation".

Mid level programs like NIU don't have the budget to recruit effectively outside their region. How many starters has NIU recruited in the last 10 years from outside the midwest? Sam Hurd and Steve Azar are about all I can think of. 36 out of region programs recruiting and over half of those offering IL HS players seems higher than normal although I don't have the #'s to back that up.

It's rare that programs like USC, Texas and LSU offer Chicago area players, each one that they sign from Chicago opens the possibility of a top NIU recruit being sought after by a local B10 program.

If U don't like my thread: 1) don't post on it or 2) get off your lazy a$$ and come up with something worth reading.
I was just letting you know that you were wrong, sorry, for many, many, many years big time colleges that are located in lands far off in places unknown to NIU have been recruiting here, its just a matter of numbers, the Chicago land area is one of the most populated areas in the United States. If you are surprised other schools recruit here you know nothing about college football or high school football. This is not something new that Joe Novak has to all of a sudden worry about, this is no different then it was 10 years ago.

I don't think anybody has said that. Our point is if the Texasses, UCLA's, USC's and teams that come from deep recruiting areas stayed at home to recruit we would be better at competing for the top players in the state. Not saying we would get them, just giving us a better chance. Is it realistic to believe that would happen? No. We ALL know that isn't realistic, we are talking hypotheticals here.

I disagree. Looking at UT's probable starters this fall, we have the following that are out of region:

WR David Washington - Texas
WR DJ Nichols - California
OL Jesse Anderson - Texas
OL Greg Luna - Washington

LB Steve Morrison - New York
LB Marques McFarlin - New York
LB Michael Chamberlain - California
CB Nigel Morris - New York

P Brett Kern - New York

Altogether, we have 29 players on our 2006 roster that are from out of our region. I define our region as Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Illinois. The majority of the out-of-area players we have are from Florida, Texas, California, New York, Washington, and New Jersey.
