Game would be in 2009. The ironic thing is Cary Groth(our former AD now at Nevada) is going to get a game with ND but our AD who came from ND has not yet been able to sign one with ND. [Image: banghead.gif]

Congrats to Cary.

Sorry, here is the link.

That is surprising that ND would play Nevada, Nevada will have a tough time selling out thier tickets for that game being 2K miles away from South Bend. If our AD gets NIU a game with ND I will be shocked.
Odd how MAC teams don't play Notre Dame at all. The midwest location and independent status would think that a MAC team would play them more.

I think it's a question of whether Notre Dame will play a MAC team.

Miami had a contract done to play in Notre Dame's home opener a few years back. The spring or summer before kickoff, NBC objected -- in part because it was to have been the first year of the stadium after renovations.

Notre Dame bought out Miami with a healthy two-for-two basketball series, if memory serves.

If you are reading this and wearing J. Crew, feel free to correct me if I've been inaccurate about this.
I just don't get it. I guess I never will. Why are people so enamoured with Notre Dame? I don't even turn the television to NBC on Saturdays because I can't stand to look at them. Over rated, and over hyped, EVERY freaking year!
Have to confirm if this is still true, but a few years ago, the Irish wouldn't pay anyone to travel to Notre Dame for games. So, MAC schools wouldn't get the big $200K,$300K pay day as they would at some Big Ten schools. It might be a reason why a game there wouldn't be as attractive as other choices.

I attend some of the ND alumni events in Chicago. Believe it or not, there has been some discussion about playing MAC schools early in the season, but not for the same reason we'd hope. The suggestion is more along the lines of "Why don't we have warm up games like everyone else?" Their speculation is that ND wouldn't do that to keep the folks at NBC happy, but who knows?

Yeah...Notre Dame always have a problem with "return tix" from visiting schools...since ND wouldn't have ANY fans out there who would want to pick up a tix to the ALWAYS SOLD OUT Notre Dame Stadium.

Oh...and if Nevada was offered 2,000 tix or so...chances are...I think they would sell all of them...as a trip to ND is usually on the list of almost ANY College Football Fan.

ND might have unsold tix to a game? 04-jawdrop

Too funny!

You are right. Miami (IN) also made the most of it by winning their fill in game against VPI, and thumping ND in more than one of the bball games.
The game has nothing to do with Cary Groth. This all came about two years ago, when ND wanted to move their game against BYU to earlier in the season a few months before the season started. It involved BYU having to bump their game against San Diego State, and SDSU bumping their game against Nevada. As part of the deal, ND agreed to give both SDSU and Nevada a one-off guarantee game in South Bend.

That's all this is, finalizing a date for that earlier deal.

:shhh: You weren't supposed to catch that. Although, I am sure she did help some because this is our new AD's second year(and is doing a great job).

Indeed tt was a 2-for-2 deal, and Miami won 3 games. The game they lost was by 1 point in Oxford. At least 1 win was when ND was ranked, maybe 2 of them. The 1st game of the series was during the Sweet 16 run with Wally.

It pays to take advantage of the situation.
