Looking over the ESPN NFL Draft board, it looks as though no MAC player was taken in the draft. Being such an up and coming football conference, we got zip? This can't this be right. C'mon, who got taken?

Two Western Michigan players went in the second round.

The only other player taken from a Michigan school was some Michigan State kid.

Um, there were two from WMU. You are right, we got zip. Akron IS in this conference. ;-)

Sorry, my original post was overly critical of Flash so I edited.
With such an up and coming football conference, I knew there had to be more than zip. And there are- two. Brings the entire conference even with the number taken out of Weber State. :towel:

Glad all this football effort is paying off.
2nd Round: Greg Jennings (WR) & Tony Scheffler (TE) -- both of WMU

4th Round: Dominek Hixson (WR/KR) -- Akron

5th Round: Terna Nande (LB) -- Miami; Omar Jacobs (QB) -- BGSU

6th Round: Bruce Gradkowski (QB) -- Toledo

BTW, a bunch of guys from Michigan and a few from MSU did go today.
FlashFan... how could you not see anyone from the MAC taken in the draft? what draft board were you looking at? If you were talking about the number of guys taken from KEnt that would be one thing and you would be correct, but the conference as a whole did have some selections.

Flashfan, the MAC had 5 different teams sending players to the NFL via the draft. How many MAC teams will be sending players to the NBA via the draft? Can we very optimistically say even 1? lmfao
Many more MAC players will be taken during the free agency. NIU has Sam Hurd (WR), Brian Van Acker (Center), and AJ Harris (RB-ran a 4.29 40). NIU has had many players picked up in the free agency. NIU led the MAC in 2005 with 8 free agents picked up.

Thank you for making my point. As we only got one guy, Bowler, even invited to Portsmouth, we have him or no one. That's because in the last four years, the MAC has done nothing (was going to say almost nothing, but as I can't think of a single thing...nothing) to develop basketball. In addition, the NBA draft is two rounds, thereby making it more selective than the NBA. In the NBA, it's the best 60 players taken, and college seniors compete with guys from around the world, Junior College and even high school for picks. Unless the MAC drastically picks up its support for basketball, we will rarely see draft picks.

As you see from my post, I asked my question after the first day of the draft. Didn't see anyone on the ESPN draft board from the MAC, and as you read from my post, I found it hard to believe. I was informed we had two guys go from WMU on the first day. More guys went the second day.

Good for all of them. It's a pay off for an incredible amount of individual effort. And, as the MAC spends all of its conference development effort on football, we ought to get something out of it. And we got...something.

If you don't like spending money on football, you won't have to worry about your football program being in the MAC very long. The NCAA will take care of that for you so you can spend as little as you want in Div1AA or lower if you feel the need. Then you will just have to see if the MAC will keep you b-ball and rest of sports only. If we can take Temple football( lmfao ) only, I don't see why you couldn't stay. Also, it helps the conferences SOS if you leave so it may be a good thing.
You're right, Dom Hixon is another "zip" that will represent us in the NFL. Fourth rounder too. Not too bad

Agreed, and it is a lot harder to send guys to the NBA due to many reasons. There are only two rounds of drafting as opposed to seven. Not to mention there are about 370 teams feeding the NBA as well as a pool of foreign players. It's great that we can send so many football players to the next level.
If Kent is putting their money into football, rather than bball, you better get a refund.

Where is Temple's basketball pogram, anyway? The fact that Temple sends the MAC a crummy football program but keep its prize elsewhere says it all.

MAC football is what it is: entertaining, gives lots of kids an ability to play that couldn't othewise, affordable and accessible. Think of all those Illinois and Southen Wisconsin residents who can't get tickets to Wisconsin or Notre Dame yet see good quality football in DeKalb.

Like minor league baseball, MAC football it fills a helpful role for interested fans. Just don't take it too seriously.
