I had chance to talk to Rick Chryst today about several items, including the 3rd MAC bowl. Let's keep our fingers crossed! I will post an article on my site by the end of the week. Nick
So does it sound promising or do we have to wait until your article is posted on the site? ;-)

...For the past five years, the MAC has had two bowl options, the GMAC Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, and the Motor City Bowl in Detroit. For 2006, that may change for the better. Three new applications will be presented for bowl certification approval later this month.

The first bowl of these possible new bowls will be located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on the campus of New Mexico University. This contest will be a representative from the Mountain West Conference versus a WAC opponent.

The International Bowl is slated to be in Toronto, Canada, and will be the 3rd pick from the MAC to face a member of the Big East Conference, most likely their #5 team. This potential bowl was considered last year but ultimately did not pass certification. The main reason for the failure is that it was believed there would not be enough bowl eligible teams for the 2005 season since most schools played an 11-game schedule. The MAC and International Bowl was asked to represent again in 2006...

I really do hope this goes through. Its about damn time the MAC get the recognition it deserves. If anything, we should be taking away bowl games from the Big East and CUSA which already have far too many. Overall the MAC has better teams from top to bottom. Don't even get me started on CUSA, they just suck at football. Can anyone say overrated?
Any news on the Birmingham Bowl? I hear thats rumored to be another MAC vs C-USA bowl. MAC 4 or 3 vs C-USA 6 or 7 would be the match up.

Also, is the Toronto Bowl purely a Big East tie in or is it a split tie in?

I would think Vandelay would have mentioned this bowl if he thought it actually had a chance. How nice it would be if the MAC had 4 bowl games. I really do think that would help the conference with recruiting and national recognition. I think the top 4 MAC teams could definitely win those 4 bowl games.

When UCF has an 0 for the season their last year in the MAC and wins CUSA East the next year, that speaks volumes for the "quality" of CUSA football. With the exception of Tulsa, CUSA=Gateway(1AA) lmfao

Very good point. I didn't think about that. TCU and Louisville were smart to get out of there. Marshall didn't make much sense, but even then geographically the only conference that makes sense for them is Big East. I think even in 2003 UCF only went 3-8.
NCAA Football: Plans are in motion to pit MWC, WAC foes in the postseason

http://www.abqtrib.com/albq/sp_ncaa/arti...82,00.html

Quote:The bowl contracts will likely be more valuable to non-Bowl Championship Series conferences this year. College football has added a 12th game to the schedule, but programs still only need six wins to become bowl eligible and one of those can come against a Division I-AA opponent.

Instead of 59 teams being eligible for 56 bowl spots, Star estimated 69 teams could end up bowl eligible.

Davalos said the new standards means BCS conferences should be able to fulfill all their bowl commitments, shutting the door on potential at-large invitations for the smaller leagues.

Must be nice that the BCS gets so much help from the NCAA to keep them owning every aspect of D1-A football. We already knew BCS programs were having a harder time fulfilling their bowl contracts. Now with mid-majors being hit with scholarship losses and more bowl eligible teams the BCS schools can push that closing gap back apart. I'm sick of this crap!

Honestly, THINK before you post.

Akron was 7-4 after the season ended, and 7-5 after the bowl game loss. Akron only lost that game by a TD. The team that won CUSA only went 8-4 after the season ended, and 8-5 after their loss in a bowl game. Not much of a difference there! Your point was just as irrelevant!

I guess I can totally ignore you now........you know........since TULSA, the team that WON CUSA, actually WON their bowl game over a damned good Fresno team.

Thanks for making that easy.
when posted - you will read about the Birmingham Bowl and the possible MAC tie in

The bright side is the NCAA has less incentive to artificially cap the number of bowl games. Hopefully, that means we can get the Toronto game going.

Let me make it easier still - stay on the C-DOA board. Simple enough?

We can both go back and forth with different things. I could mention Toledo's 45-13 stomping of UTEP. Toledo was 3rd in the MAC last year, didn't even play in the MACC Game. Yet we stomped UTEP who was probably considered 3rd in C-USA. UTEP went 8-3 before the bowl game and even beat C-USA champ Tulsa during the regular season. Should there really be a 32 point difference between the #3 team in the MAC and the #3 team in C-USA?

You're right, i forgot that CUSA just started a Championship game between the East and the West like the MAC. However, that was new to CUSA last year so my mistake is understandable. The MAC has played a Championship game for a lot longer. Even then, you were wrong about a 6-6 team winning the MAC, Akron was 7-5. However, your best team that won more CUSA games was UCF. UCF only lost one game against CUSA opponents. The whole point he was trying to make was that CUSA was easier to win in compared to the MAC. He does sound right. How do you go 0-8 in the MAC in 2004 and then 7-1 in CUSA the next year? It certainly isn't because CUSA recruits better than the MAC.
