What is the deal with WKY and MAC. Its seems that with Temple coming in that we would have got some more news from this topic. Seems like it died down, but we still need a 14th team to balance the divisions. NCAA shouldn't let MAC go too long with 13 teams once Temple starts playing conference games. With this stadium design, is WKy commited to joining a real football conference in D-A? I would think that they would have to be added soon.
It looks pretty nice to me. I still have my hopes up that Western Kentucky will enter the MAC with all sports in '07.
Very nice. 04-bow

WKU appears serious about moving up to 1A and I really believe they would be a great fit with the MAC. Let's hope it happens...but only if it includes their basketball as well.
Looks very nice.....just curious.....the new stands have what appears to be a concourse or press box built above them. Anyone posting here know what's in that area?

It seems like, if they do it, it ought to be done by July 1. That would give WKU the ability to give the Sun Belt a year's notice.

Does that sound correct to others?
WKU appears serious about moving up to D-1A, and has even modified the head coach's contract to provide for increased salary in the event that they do move up.

The MAC isn't WKU's only option, however. They could, perhaps more easily, put their football program into the Sunbelt where the rest of their teams compete.

You are correct. That said, it is really the MAC's decision. If the MAC wants them and invites them WKU will accept. If the MAC does not want them then they will consider other options like the Sun Belt.

And whether or not the MAC wants them might depend on whether or not we can get Temple to bring all sports now that Chaney is gone.......

Why would anyone want to join the MAC for all sports when we cannot even get two bids in the NCAA tournament? What is it going to be? 1 school dancing out of 14? Ugly odds if you ask me.

That is true, but do you think if the MAC went to a 14 team conference which included Temple for all sports since Chaney is gone, and WKU. A conference with

Western Kentucky
Temple
Kent State
Ball State
Miami (Oh)
Ohio
Toledo

Those are six schools with good to great basketball history. I would think that the MAC would start to get two teams in.

BTW i am not intending to offend any other MAC schools not listed, those were just the top basketball teams off my head if the conference were to go that way as far as national recognition.

Actually, you offended by listing Toledo. 05-stirthepot
Looks good but I have one suggestion for WKU and the designers of the stadium. Put in lights if you are going to play in the MAC.

Funny thing is, many of our stadia never used to have them. Bowling Green's are only three or so years old.

But, yeah, they are pretty much a requirement to get on ESPN primetime...
Sorry, but I'm not any more excited about WKU than I was about Temple. Bad moves, all around.

I don't get the sense that the university presidents are waiting on Temple for the WKU decision. Stay tuned, though. I fully expect us to know more before July 4.

WKU's other main option is the Sun Belt. The Sun Belt has one football bowl bid and usually only one NCAA tournament bid. They are on television even less than the MAC, and they are considered a worse conference in football (for sure) and probably even in basketball.
Explain to me why we'd want WKU again.

I just don't get it. I'm not being sarcastic.
WKY is a top mid-major basketball program and among the best on the all-time list. I think the MAC needs to upgrade basketball membership by adding WKY and Temple basketball. That combo would boost rpi, since those schools play far tougher ooc schedules than current MAC schools.

Because the MAC will need a 14th team so that when Miami and Toledo bolt there will still be 12 schools and a conference championship game. 05-stirthepot
Lets see if I can offer some help...

With this stadium design, is WKy commited to joining a real football conference in D-A?
Most of us here at WKU believe that we are doing all of this to join I-A. We just need to get our attendence up a few thousand. Last year we averaged 12,500 per game.

The new stands have what appears to be a concourse or press box built above them. Anyone posting here know what's in that area?
The new concourse will hold new offices, work out center, classrooms and storage.

Looks good but I have one suggestion for WKU and the designers of the stadium. Put in lights if you are going to play in the MAC.
WKU has lights already they're just not in that drawing. We had an ESPNU game last year during primetime against S Ill.

WKU's other main option is the Sun Belt
I believe the Sun Belt has offered WKU the option of moving up to play I-A football with them.

OOC Basketball:
Western was the last team left out of the tourney this year according to the selection group. We had beat Virgina at WKU by 10, 2 point home loss to Georgia, Overtime loss at Arizona, 2 point away loss to Bradley, Beat UAB at UAB by 25 (Memphis lost there). Only lost 2 games in the Sun Belt before losing in the Tourny finals to South Alabama.[/b]
