ESPN.com is running a poll on its college football page asking:

Which of these players will rush for more yards in 2006?

Garrett Wolfe is one of five choices. Vote for GW...

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/index
I voted for him but he is currently in last place w/ 7%
Tyrell Sutton-Northwestern-10%
Marshall Lynch-Cal-13%
Michael Bush-Louisville- 16%
Adrian Peterson-Oklahoma-55%
Not looking good, not that it matters. He is beating Sutton in Illinois.
When i voted he still had 7% and Sutton was beating him by 3% (10%). We all know this voting is a result of Oklahoma's status among the football elite and being a BCS school. I think Peterson is good, but USC dominated him in the NC game in 2003 by stopping him. And otherwise than that, you really haven't heard much about Peterson since that one breakout year. But ESPN and others still seem to give him a lot of props for some reason. SI.com has a top 20 players of 2006 and they have Peterson as #1. I think they overrated him, but we'll see. I sent everyone the link on my buddy list and told them to vote for Garrett Wolfe, so that should get some more votes. I'm excited to see GW getting some recognition though from ESPN. That's a rare thing for mid-major players/programs.
I voted... and passed along a few emails...
It's interesting to note that even Illinois voters chose Peterson over Wolfe, although Wolfe came in second over Sutton. Wolfe doesn't receive as much visibility or publicity as Peterson given OU's BCS status. Overall voting really came down to a regional level probably because of higher promotion/press of the 'local' candidate.
Two things...

#1 It is good to see an NIU player listed as a top 5 candidate for this poll

#2 We all know that Wolfe will likely finish in the top 3 of this list (provided he stays healthy) when the final yardage is totaled at the end of the season.

I think if Garrett stays healthy and the line blocks for him like they did last year and possibly a little better he'll be the #1 rusher in the nation. He probably won't get as much praise for it being from a MAC school and not BCS team, but I think he's got the ability to be the nation's leading rusher....Good point Kedz....

Without a doubt Garrett Wolfe can be #1. All of the MAC fans, NIU fans, etc. know that Garrett Wolfe is capable. Big Ten teams--Michigan and Northwestern know what Garrett Wolfe is capable of. Unfortunately, the nation doesn't know what Garrett Wolfe is capable of. ESPN needs to run more stories on NIU and Garrett Wolfe. People love to hear about the little people who come out on top to achieve great things. I'm sure there is a good story ESPN could do on Wolfe...something about his background, where he came from, how he got over his academic problems so he could play, etc.

I know when people want their like "special stories" on ESPN a lot of the time they write a letter to get the attention of the company and then the company reviews the story and decides what to do. I'm thinking maybe if someone has the article about Wolfe from last fall from the Northern Star, maybe someone could clip it out and send in a highlight tape and a few good words in a letter and maybe we could get a story out of it right before the OSU game. Just an idea. I've personally seen it done with my cousin's school in Indiana a couple years ago. A girl on their volleyball team had been horribly injured and made a recovery to play and ESPN was at the game she came back in, so maybe it could work for Mr. Wolfe. Just a thought!

I would do it since I know someone at Sportscenter but I would feel uncomfortable taking advantage of the situation I have with he and his wife(who is a tOSU fan BTW).
How's our boy doing in the polls?

Last i checked, yesterday, the poll was over with. Anyone know the total amount of votes it ended with. Last time when i saw it there were just over 24,000 total votes and Wolfe had 8%. I'm going to guess he remained at 8% since that's how it remained the entire time it was on there. But 8% of a higher vote count than what i saw it at means more votes for Wolfe.
