Great job in your respective tourney's and holding the MAC on your shoulders. Wish we could have gotten a couple more wins, but now it's FB season.

We're gonna pound both of you this fall!!!!!!
Okay, so when does the Rockets post season start?
FB season started this morning---and the hurtin's comin' on you!!!

All jokes aside, what's the deal with tailgating these days. We play at KSU and we want to bring the tailgating vehicles with 'controled' beverages of choice.

Bring it
The biggest problelm for MAC basketball is that the top 1-2 teams can't play anyone else of NCAA or even NIT quality in the MAC. As it stands now,. the best teams play each other then only face high talent teams during the post season or a lucky OOC draw. It puts the MAC at a disadvantage in post season ball with a conference of 2 good teams and the balance, uhhh, uncompetitive.

If the MAC could step up and realize the national prestige and money for mid majors is in basketball and not football, maybe we could get somewhere. But right now, with the MAC interest in the GMAC ("Grandma Gets to A Camera") Bowl games and NOT hoops like, well, every OTHER mid major conference, we are pretty much done for post season hoops.

Sp, yeah, you'll beat us in football next year. And, other than you, Mom and Dad, no one is going to notiice or care. That's the story on MAC Football.

If you are playing Akron, just make sure you don't take them too lightly. 03-melodramatic

So you're saying that MAC football is just like MAC basketball?

Excellent!! 02-13-banana
No, people notice the NCAA. Perhaps even you have noticed March Madness. If not, read the papers. If that's not possible, watch TV.

Not like mid major foobtall and Grand Ma gets A Camera Bowls at all.

Yes, people do notice the NCAA. That doesn't mean that they notice the MAC team that plays in it. Though I do appreciate the funny little comment about "if that's not possible [to read the papers]," if I were to read the papers or watch the tournament on television, I would notice that there are currently NO MAC teams playing in it. And, most people who fill out brackets either don't watch basketball during the regular season and/or couldn't tell me what the MAC rep. did during the regular season.

If we're talking about interest, let's look at the regular season attendance for the top MAC basketball programs and compare it to the regular season attendance of the top MAC football programs. Surely we'll see that more people care about MAC football than they do MAC basketball.

Also, MAC football teams have good records in bowl games as opposed to the post season basketball appearances by our league's best this year in which they rolled over and died at the whistle. Has a MAC team recently performed better than Miami's or KSU's sweet 16 appearances?

Quote:I'm an Ohio grad. I've attended many Bobcats-Zips and Bobcats-Flashes games at Rhodes Arena and the M.A.C. Center. Virtually every time, I find myself asking: Why isn't the crowd bigger? On some occasions, there seemingly have been nearly as many Ohio fans attending as home fans.
The smallish attendance at Akron and Kent games seems puzzling. As you point out, both are large schools, have on-campus arenas and are located in a large-population area.

Sounds like people care to me. 03-yawn

Don't kid yourself. Maybe you didn't notice that only one MAC school was invited to the NCAA tournament, much less than many of the other "mid-major" conferences. If people cared, there might be more than one invited.
The MAc doesn't get more than one bid because we typically don't have more than one NCAA quality team. 2004-05 might have been an exception, but even that was debatable.

I won't respond to an Ohio fan about our attendance after we played in a half empty Conco this year then drew about 5,300 to the MAC on a Tuesday night to see them. I believe Akron, too, was at capacity when the Bobs came to town.

The problem isn't that the top two teams in the MAC can't play NCAA or NIT teams, it's that they can't beat them. Prestige is debatable, but money isn't. How much did Kent get paid to play Pitt in Auburn Hills? As for your disparaging remarks concerning the GMAC, all I can say is that you need to go to a bowl game some time and experience the thrill. It's been a while since I've attended an NCAA tourney game, but I will say bowl games are more fun and exciting. Just because you don't like football doesn't mean you should be ripping on our conference bowl games.[/quote]
