Some leagues have passed us. Of course, Cleveland is still a gold mine for the MAC.

2006:

23,745: Atlantic Coast (Duke over Boston College in Greensboro, N.C.)
19,594: Big East (Syracuse over Pittsburgh in New York)
18,544: Pacific 10 (California-Los Angeles over California in Los Angeles)
17,591: Big Ten (Iowa over Ohio State in Indianapolis)
17,458: Big 12 (Kansas over Texas in Dallas)
16,607: Conference USA (Memphis over Alabama-Birmingham in Memphis, Tenn.)
13,969: Missouri Valley (Southern Illinois over Bradley in St. Louis)
11,302: Southeastern (Florida over South Carolina in Nashville, Tenn.)
10,840: Mountain West (San Diego State over Wyoming in Denver)
10,253: Mid-American (Kent State over Toledo in Cleveland)
10,021: Horizon (Wisconsin-Milwaukee over Butler in Milwaukee)
9,436: Western Athletic (Nevada over Utah State in Reno, Nev.)
9,373: Atlantic 10 (Xavier over St. Joseph
This is misleading though.

The attendance for our championship is the same. Other leagues smply had a better year than last.
MVC - to be expected, given the increase exposure and at-large expectations this year.

CUSA - at home for Memphis, and last year they were not expected to do as well as they did. This year, they knew they were shooting for 1 seed. I'd expect this one to outdraw MAC as long as held in Memphis, since they will remain one of the powers there regardless.

MWC - not statistically significant difference in my view.

So, I don't see any reason for concern.
Would have been really interesting to see the numbers for an all NE Ohio match up between Kent State and Akron. My estimate would be 16-18K for that game.
i don't see any reason for concern either. didn't they announce that this year's figures were the second highest in tournament history for all sessions combined? plus the league signed an extension through 2011 or something like that. this is our signature event, as someone mentioned this past weekend. it's doing fine in cleveland; there's no problem or issue here.
There is no way the MWC final had more in attendance than the MAC final. The Pepsi Center was 3/4ths empty.

But were they using the whole arena? The Q was only using the lower bowl so it looked like it was more full.
I'll second that. There was nowhere near 10k there. It was, according to the announcers 85% Wyoming fans.

Don't know...even if they were it couldn't have made THAT much of a difference. That place was barren.
I've started this thread at least three years in a row now.

I'm not saying we have an issue. Our tournament is strong. Just noting that a couple of conferences had even stronger years.
It was an exciting tourney. With all 12 men's and women's programs there it should only get better next year.
48,582 total for MAC post-season attendance. EXCELLENT, especially given the "down" year this season.
MAC tournament is as close as we get to being a major conference. We are top 7 in tournament attendance. I was at the quarters and the semis.

Cincinnati vs Ohio next December at the Q.

The Q could be a very attractive venue to get high majors to play MAc teams. Akron and Kent State should try to get teams like Louisville, California or Syracuse to play a return game at the Q.

Perhaps the State politicans should put some pressure on Ohio State to play a game in Cleveland once a year vs a MAC team. The tax money that we are sending the NCAA as part of the Buckeyes probation shouldn't go over to well with the citizens of Ohio. Buckeyes should give something back to the state instead of playing money games vs Florida A&M and Norfolk State every year.
Impressive numbers. And it should get better considering the vast improvement Dan Gilbert made to the Qund.
I haven't been to the arena since last year at some point, and I was very impressed with all of the changes. Being inside, you would think you were in another arena. Love the scoreboard. Even the picture montages around the inside are a nice touch. The place has much more character now.

I thought two northern Ohio teams this year would have better attendance than Buffalo/Ohio from last year?

All Toledo graduates seem to live near Toledo. Of the six Ohio MAC schools, Toledo is probably least likely to have graduates in the Cleveland area. Any other Ohio opponent for Kent State would have put more fans in seats, in my opinion.
I watched the SunBelt Conference championship game to see WKU's basketball team. You could have fired a shotgun off in that arena without hitting anyone. If there was 5,000+ in the arena, as reported, they were all in line in the bathrooms.

Why not? Kent State/Bowling Green drew 14,000-plus.
