MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee baseball coach Steve Peterson announced the signing of Todd Martin to scholarship papers this week.

Martin, a transfer from the University of Tennessee, played in 23 games in 2004 with five starts, including playing in all three games in the NCAA Regional in Kinston, N.C. The outfielder batted .267 with four doubles and eight run scored in only 30 at-bats, walking seven times.

The Cookeville, Tenn., native batted .231 in 10 games as a freshman in 2003, scoring four runs. He collected a hit in his first collegiate at-bat against The Citadel.

Martin played basketball and baseball at Cookeville High School, earning All-State honors as a senior in baseball.

"Todd is a lefthanded hitter who we were very interested in coming out of high school," Peterson said. "He decided to go elsewhere and has since changed his mind.

"He can hit for power and run and is a very good athlete. Todd can play anywhere in outfield and has the arm strength to play rightfield. He should add some pop to our lineup and will get lot of opportunities to play."

Martin joins five others in the recruiting class, including: Doug Birkofer and Nathan Hines (Oakland HS, Murfreesboro, Tenn.); Alex Watson (Riverdale HS, Murfreesboro, Tenn.); Rawley Bishop (Germantown Houston HS, Germantown, Tenn.); and Ryan Moore (The McCallie School, Chattanooga, Tenn.).
