MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The All-American Football Foundation will honor Dr. Sidney McPhee, president of Middle Tennessee State University, on Sunday, July 18. McPhee will receive the "Outstanding College President's" award at the 62nd Banquet of Champions in New Orleans at the Wyndham Hotel. The banquet is being held in conjunction with the annual Sun Belt Conference Football Media Days which begin on July 19.

"We are delighted for the recognition Dr. McPhee has received and it is very deserving," said Wright Waters, commissioner of the Sun Belt Conference. "As a group we continue to praise the efforts he has given our fast growing conference. Not only is he being recognized for current contributions, but he is listed among those who have contributed greatly to the game of football in the past."

McPhee, a member of the prestigious NCAA Board of Directors, was nominated by the Sun Belt Conference office in recognition to his service towards college football. McPhee was part of a driving force during the NCAA convention in helping reduce the number of required Division I-A home football games from five to four, which was a strong point of contention for schools outside the BCS conferences.

McPhee was also instrumental in leading the crusade to eliminate the 5/8 rule in men's college basketball, a rule that had previously limited the number of signees a coach could land during a two-year recruiting period.

Also a member of the Gender and Diversity Committee of the NCAA, McPhee was recently elected president of the Sun Belt Conference for a two-year term.

"Under Dr. McPhee's leadership MTSU has made great strides in the academic arena," said Don Ash, President of the MTSU Foundation. "For example, the recently opened Honors College, which is the first one in the state of Tennessee.

"On the athletic front, Middle Tennessee has won the Sun Belt Conference's Vic Bubas award (all-sports trophy) twice in four years and shows his commitment to developing a quality athletic program.

"I so appreciate the dedication Dr. McPhee and Mrs. McPhee have given to the continued improvement of our great University. This award further confirms his good works."
