I took 30 minutes and figured all of this out-- Enjoy:

You never know what can happen. UB as an 8th seed or Toledo a 7 seed would have a shot at upsetting the top two seed. Ohio a 6 vs the 3 could be interesting. It would would be crazy if all four top seeds get upset in the quarters. Reality is that despite winning 17 of 19 games prior to the tournament for Kent. They may face an 8th seed that comes in remembering how close they were last year. That is a dangerous game. Also, the tournament experience of UB and Ohio. They have it Akron doesn't. Will Kent, Miami, or Akron play tight as the tournament hits. Regular season might have taken some pressure off a team like Ohio. They experienced the intensity of the MAC tournament. Akron hasn't had any experience of the semis or the finals. Neither has NIU or Toledo.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't Toledo in the semis (and made it to the finals as well) 2 years ago? Our seniors and juniors would have been a part of that team.
Toledo lost to WMU in the semis in 2004.

Toledo is definitely the most dangerous team right now in that 5-8 seeding range. I will probably predict a semifinal appearance for the Rockets, in fact...especially if WMU wins Saturday and locks down the #2.

And yet we can't figure out how to solve 3rd world hunger and world peace. Go figure....
Is there a championship game for the regular season East v West?

TIA.

Yeah. We've already played it. Twice. 04-rock

(Or once, if WMU wins Saturday.)

lmfao lmfao .... ...Seriously is there a cross over game? You have to have confernce champ ...don't you?
In basketball, the division winner with the best record is the MAC champ and gets the rings.
The 5-8 seeds are that for a reason. KSU has beaten every team in the MAC at least once. They will not be overconfident or scared.

Or possibly because they weren't as good at the beginning of the conference season. Like Toledo having won 6 straight conference games, including beating the MAC Champs from Kent State by 16 points. ;-)

This seems to me to be an awful lot of wishfull thinking. Somebody should remind OUBOBCATJOHN what happened in the past week when OU faced Akron and Kent. Does he think the outcome will be any different come tournament time. As an Akron fan it pains me to say the Kent is the team to beat in the tournament, not because of their record, but because of the way they are playing at this time.

Agreed. I don't think tournament experience/success is very much of a reliable indicator in college sports. Did Buffalo have any good tournament experience going in to last year?

But a large contingent, and maybe the majority, of OU fans that I've read here and on other message boards generally seem to regard themselves as the greatest 9-8 team ever, Akron is the worst 13-4 team ever, if their game was on they would've beaten us by 30 in Athens and 15 in Akron, the 4-game difference in standings is also fluky and meaningless, and that they'd beat us "8 out of 10 times on a neutral court."

I think you are overstating it. Akron is by far the team we match up the best with out of the Big 3. Had a couple bounces gone differently last Saturday, OU could have potentially won that game. Even Dambrot said in the post-game that that was a game that very well might have gone differently if it hadn't been played in the J.A.R.

If the teams meet up in the quarters, Akron will be favored. They should be. However, OU fans are at least somewhat hopeful because we have seen twice this year that we can play with the Zips. We have the experience. Akron has never even won a MAC Tournament game in Cleveland. That might prove meaningless, or it might not.
What was the wink for? Whoopee. You beat KSU in a classic letdown game. That winning streak since has coincided with beating one team with a winning record in MAC play. Again, seeds 5-8 are that for a reason.

Letdown. WMU fans said that too, because we beat them by 23 points. There is a reason that Toledo is leading the MAC in steals for the entire season. You say that one team had a winning record, but that is because there are not a lot of winning records in the MAC. We beat NIU when they were in 1st in the West, Kent State when they were 1st in the East, and WMU when they were in 1st in the West. We also won by an average of 18.5 points per game in that 6 game winning streak.

Kent State has lost like 2 or 3 conference games all year and Toledo was one of them. That sounds pretty good for Toledo if you ask me. You can call the game a letdown, but you know Toledo handled Kent easily in that game and the game earlier in the year at Kent, when Toledo wasn't playing very well, was a fairly close game with Toledo losing by only 8 points.

All of your top seeds can keep arguing with yourselves and just forget about us. It's better if we just sneak up on ya anyway.

BTW, what seed was Ohio last year? I'm guessing around 4th or 5th but I don't know for sure.
rocketfootball Wrote:BTW, what seed was Ohio last year? I'm guessing around 4th or 5th but I don't know for sure.

Ohio was the 4th seed last year, part of the 7 way logjam at 11-7.
The logjam last year is exactly the reason. Seeds had no bearing last year as the 7 seed for example was just as good as the 2 seed. The 7 seed won last year but I know you know that. Ohio could have just as easily been the 2 or 3 seed instead of the 4. Buffalo the same. This year is more normal with the top two or three teams pulling away from everyone else. The law of averages would say one lower-seeded team will win a quarterfinal game but no more than two. Toledo would be a guess for me simply because they will likely be playing either WMU or NIU. But in 2004, the top 4 seeds made the semifinals just like in 2002.

Again, whoopee. You lead the league in steals. Should I list all of the categories KSU leads in? Funny, KSU was 6-5 when they beat Toledo by eight points. They weren't exactly playing like world beaters.

Congratulations. Toledo can play against OU for best 10-8 team in the conference title.

Well Ohio went 11-7 in the MAC last year and won the MAC Tournament because they got hot at the end of the season. Toledo will likely be 10-6 in the MAC with a 7 game conference winning streak and could very well stay hot and win the MAC Tournament.

The best team in the MAC regular season usually does not win the MAC Tournament. It is that way for a lot of conferences.

I'm not saying that Toledo will even get to the title game, but they certainly have just as good of a chance as anyone with the way they are playing right now.
who cares about the regular season??? its means nothing. It gives school like Kent a phatom championship to talk about. When Monday comes around thats when it starts. I wouldn't want to be in Toledo's part of the bracket. Not the way they have been playing these past couple of weeks.
