Shameless plug alert:

A writer for one of our newspapers sees indications that this may be, as many have speculated, Chaney's last year.

Last dance? (click to read)

If so, does that mean Temple will be joining the MAC in all sports?

Every year someone says this... to be honest the MAC wants Temple basketball to make up for our football team but believe you me... if temple joins for all sports temple basketball will be nothing more then a average team a year or two after they join...
As I mentioned before the Temple FB game, Chaney will resign after this season allowing Temple to be 'authorized' to join the MAC. Temple will play every MAC team next year in BB (per inside source with Temple)
This is a topic frequenly discussed on the Temple rival board. The consensus is... there is no consensus. But I think until he decides to, and comes out and says it... well with the Old Man, if he is anything, he is stubborn.
I personally don't see him going just yet.... but he is 74 or whatever so you never know...

Maybe if he Upsets PUKE tomorrow he will retire!!

;-)

What.... and just jettison the A10 like that?? No contractual agreement with their current conference?

VE - average in the MAC? you think Temple hoops is that low...?

I mean, granted, things have been a bit down with what looks like to be our 5th straight year in the NIT. But... we are talking about MAC basketball, while it is OK, i don't see Temple being average in the MAC? You really do?

As the husband of a psychologist (who got her PhD at Temple, no less), I understand completely. ;-)

The Gonzaga of the MAC. There's a title worth aspiring to.

It does have a certain ring to it...

I'm with you VE, i too like BGSUalum1987, maybe because he is a local guy? I like the pic with his son too. Hopefully, someday... a happy pic with my oldest son he doesn't get the Temple Football part of me. He gets the Hoops part a bit, but Temple's best hoop days were when he was a lot younger...

Not necessarily.

I can't tell you what I think Temple will do, I'm not a mind reader.

If I were Temple, I'd be doing exactly what I'm doing.......Football only in the MAC with basketball in the A-10. I would wait until the next big shuffle to make a move to the MAC all sports.

From Temple's perspective, a number of outcomes could occur in the next couple of years.

1. Reinvited to the Big East. Not likely but an outside possibility. They were seriously considered for the Big East during the last realignment.

2. Possible opening in CUSA? If a school like Memphis or UTEP left CUSA, that would open an all sport spot. Temple rejected CUSA all-sports a few years ago, but if the choice was down to joining the MAC all-sports or joining CUSA all-sports.....I don't know what their decision will be.

3. Will the A-10 fall apart or not? Nobody really knows the answer to this one. The A-10 could try and merge with MAC schools to form a 1-A conference as it rebuilds.

4. Possible opening in the MAC? Being the 13th team for a basketball leauge isn't as attractive as being the 12th or less. It would make more sense for Temple to move to the MAC after Toledo heads to the Big East or something.

In light of all of this, does it make any sense for Temple to step its basketball down to the MAC with all the impending changes on the horizon for Eastern Basketball?

I already have Yoda of the MAC locked up..... :shhh:
Temple will join the MAC for all sports. The football deal will force Temple to become a full member. Big East is looking for Memphis and UCF. Big East doesn't want Temple. Temple football is like spoiled milk and ex-wives, they get worse not better over time.
