Derrick Gragg, Compliance Director and Senior Assoc AD at Arkansas:

Quote: Gragg's hiring comes two months after Eastern Michigan president John Fallon reposted the position, saying that neither of the finalists chosen by an eight-person search committee "was the right fit'' for the job. Fallon did so after his leading candidate - Cleveland State athletic director Lee Reed - did not accept the offer to become Eastern Michigan's AD.

EMU fans,

Not to flame here, but how bad is it when CSU's AD doesn't want your job? Is there a reason why he turned it down? EMU has to be better than CSU? I am really confused by that comment.

No offense. It's really pretty simple. Reed's family really did not want to make the move back to Ypsi...his kids are a bit older and wanted to remain in Cleveland. Reed left on good terms at EMU, but to be honest, I am really glad to see EMU bringing in "fresh blood." The old boy network is really collapsing at long last and the new Prez recognzies the importance of athletics. Reed was not really Fallon's candidate but the recommendation of the dreaded "committee." Fallon was so new to EMU that he simply went with their recommendation. This time, he did it his way and left the good old boy committee in the dust.

We are getting an AD who understands major college sports and appreciates what is needed to support a major collegiate football program.
President Fallon is bringing in his own people and hires.

The new AD has a very impressive vita and sounds like an excellent choice and a beautiful fit (with his background at Wayne State and UofM).

I've been very impressed with Dr. Fallon. He really seems comfortable running a university the size and misson of Eastern.
Excellent hire by EMU. Congrats.
Sounds like a good hire. I was just curious why you wouldn't want to move up to a MAC school with D1A football from a commuter school with no athletic history or success.
