Akron
I can't believe you posted that question. You guys really are clueless. For such a long post, I can sum up the answer in four words:
YOU ARE OUR RIVAL
Graduation rate?? Last time I checked, you were the ones losing the schollarships. We can't help it your team is full of a bunch of morons.

At least one school understands what this rivalry is all about.
Akronzip, the word is "scholarships" not "schollarships". It would appear that you are, or were, no scholar, or should I say "schollar"? And you call players you probably don't even know, all of whom among the seniors are on course to be graduated, morons? HA!!
KSU's graduation rate for men's basketball is 75%, #2 in the MAC.
That some fans of other schools don't understand how the ruling was made and don't wish to take the time to understand it is really irrelevant. It will have no effect on our team next year, and we will have all scholarships the year after.
WOW! That is all I can say about that. You have really hit the nail on the head right there. We feel SOOOOOOOOO inferior to you and your .4 higher peer assessment score.

As far as our graduation rates for athletes I still find it odd that as much as people rag on our academics we are amongst the schools in the MAC not losing scholarships under the APR.

As far as our campus goes, comparing a big city campus like Akron to a little farm school like Kent is moronic. It is a simple matter of student preference as to which you prefer. And in case you haven't left your nice little happy box called Kent lately, Akron is not anywhere near as depressing as many major cities in Ohio. Take a look at Cleveland, Cinncinnati, even places like Mansfield and Youngstown if you want to find examples of "depressing" cities.
I agree that Akron is Kent
You really are kidding. All you have is your basketball team...and that light is fading quickly...especially after this season! What other titles have you won in sprots? Keep going back to Elite 8, sure...I rooted for you as well especially when you beat Pitt, but that wasn't yesterday. We have all of our major sports hitting on most cylindars now. MAC Champ in football, several for track and field, a nationally ranked men's soccer team, baseball is 8-3 thus far against teams that play year round in warm weather. Hell even our rifle team is competing this weekend in Conn. for the Mid- Atlantic Conference crown. Seriously, if I am missing something outside of Kent basketball then educate me because about the only thing I have heard is some rumbling about wrestling.

We don't hate you. We just laugh that you feel you are so superior to us. From our perspective, you only have basketball to hang onto and that is slipping away and slipping away to your rival. Some of us think it is your stupidity others your arrogance, still others just don't care!

And for the moron who can only hang his hat on a misspelled word, get over it. A message board isn't an research paper. Those of us message board junkies can't stand it when someone critiques on spelling. Most don't proof read what they write. If you're doing that, there are some great perscription medicines to treat that! ;-)

It's all good FearTheRoo. I'm glad to know that there is in fact a spell check feature on this board.

KSU typically has at least one indoor and outdoor Track and Field All-American per year. The baseball team is currently 5-3 and just took two games against the No. 24 team in the country. Our men's and women's golf teams are ranked nationally nearly ever year and routinely win the MAC. Women's golf has never lost the MAC. The wrestling team is ranked nationally and will have at least two guys in the national meet.

Great, KSU football is bad. Thanks for the update. It's no different than it has been for the last 20 years. But do not try to comment on the rest of the athletic programs, which you apparently know little about. I am not here for smack. I have co-workers and friends who went to other schools that I can have good-natured ribbing with. I don't need to do it on an internet board. But when "facts" are blatantly wrong, I will correct you.

NGF,
While many long-time followers of the school have their own reasons for disliking Akron or KSU, I think many are recent fans like myself. My parents had no ties to Kent, so I just became a fan when I came here to school. I think a majority of the people under 30 who were at the game yesterday could care less about where academic programs are ranked nationally or the admissions policy. KSU fans dislike Akron because they are told to do it and vice versa in an athletic sense. Frankly, I have more dislike for Akron because of the way certain athletes were in high school than the simple fact they play/played for Akron. (As a side, I am not talking about Romeo and Dru or any other SVSM kids)

I agree that Akron U. will probably NEVER lose any scholarships due its "EASY In and EASY Out " program. As it's virtually impossible to flunk out of Hilltop High, you guys are in the clear.

KStud, don't forget ESPN's Academic Basketball All American of 2005-06 is a Flash.
True. I did not wade even further into potentially "minor" sports. The fact that I listed five or six with great accomplishments, yet I can think of 3 or 4 more that are championship contenders every year shows you why KSU has been the top all-sports program in the MAC.
What is this, thread number 30 where a Kent guy asks his Kent cohorts why it's Akron that obsesses over them?

And you're right...it's really silly of us to bring up your football incompetency, because it's old news. I'm positive that if Akron had a Arizona Cardinals-esque legacy in any popular sport, the upstanding Kent fans would just, you know, let it go! Because it's old news.

So Kent fans, is there anything else you consider either unfair or too dated for us bring up when we have these debates? I'll be sure to take them for consideration. After all, you guys never bring up "old news" like your consecutive NCAA tourney appearances in basketball or the Elite 8 appearance, so it's only fair we stop harping on your football team.

P.S. Flashfan: Care to explain why this thread hasn't been moved to the smack talk section? Is it just barely possible you're not 100% neutral when making moderator decisions?
I think its great for the rivalry that Akron basketball has been pretty darn good the last two years, look how much press both schools have gotten. Great for both schools we should be happy that we have the focus of the MAC right here at Akron and Kent. We all know Kent basketball has been the class of the MAC for almost a decade, but with Akron on the rise its good for Kent in the longrun. If we could just follow there lead in football we might be able to start packing our stadiums for every Zips vs. Flashes game in every sport with local people!

So big ups to Akron, but I still have to say I think Kent has one of the top sports programs in the MAC. If we had any football team at all I would say its a #1 lock. Basketball speaks for itself, Baseball team a top MAC program, wrestling is top 25 right now just beat the Buckeyes, Womens basketball has been good, Golf teams two of the best in the MAC, Womens field hockey a national power. But i dont know much about Akron other than football and basketball are top MAC programs. I say embrace the rivalry. Akron should be praying that we can put a football team together, it would be good for them. 04-cheers
I love it that Akron fans want to post about the loss of 2 scholarships considering we only had 10 active players this year and still won the conference. I wouldn't mind having 2 extra players on the bench but they wouldn't play unless there are major injuries anyway. Who needs the 2 extra bench players.

this sounds like the argument niu fans and u of illnois fans with have till the day that niu sweeps illinois in every athletic event and academic ranking. some people just don't understand that there are schools people don't like.
O.K. Since we're doing facts, Akron's football team finished 1 whole game over .500, including a bowl loss to a .500 C-USA team. Four other teams matched their 5-3 MAC record, and two more eclipsed it at 6-2. That means only 5 teams out of 12 (of course one was Kent, move on)had worse records. It wasn't the best year for the MAC, and well, someone's gotta take the trophy. It just as easily could have been one of those other six. (It took a last play prayer for it to be Akron.) So to say that Akron football is "hitting on all cylinders" is borderline absurd. Unless of course you're speaking of the 3 under the hood of a Geo Metro hauling four fat guys through the Rocky Mountains.
Flashketball Wrote:well, someone's gotta take the trophy.

Tell that to the NIU fans. Looks like a pretty tough loss in an extremely well-played game (on both sides) to take the MAC CHampionship away from them.

CORRECTION: 6-3 record. And that is a HELL of a lot more wins than the 0-8 Can't State...LOOK! It even rhymes! 03-lol

Let me explaing what "Hitting on all cylindars" means since at Kent State you obvisouly have no frame of reference.

Sure it would have been nice to finish 8-0, but it was the result of the good teams (Kent would NOT be included in this group) beating up on each other. Hitting on all cylindars means having the top-ranked football recruting class for the last two years. Hitting on all cylindars means competing against programs like Michigan and Ohio State for players (and winning in at least one example). Hitting on all cylindars means your coaching staff getting national recognition. We are beginning to lose them as they get recruited away by other conferences.

When you want to see an inferiority complex, you need go no further than your bathroom mirror.
KSU: Reese Trophies, Jacoby Trophies, Top 100 nationally in the Director's Cup--leading the MAC the last 3 years. The top athletic program in the MAC for the last SIX years.

Akron: no Reese Trophy, no Jacoby trophy, NEVER finished ahead of KSU in the national Ath. Dept. rankings.

We're #1. You guys have a lot of other schools you need to pass before you get to us. Shouldn't you try to get in the top HALF before you challenge us? Good luck with that.

Let's remember this post if Kent ever wins a Bball title without winning the regular season title. We'll tell them, "Well, someone had to take the trophy." and I'm sure, given as consistently and fairly I've seen the Kent backers apply the principals of their arguments in general, they'll say, "Fair enough." and both their celebrations and the boasting will be muted.
