Just wanted to let you all know that the second segment of VanDelay's MAC football recruiting report is now live on VanDelaySports.com.

Reminder: Unfortunately there's a lot of work into formatting each of these pages so I can't get them all up in one night. As a result the plan is to release 3 teams each day. Monday night I put the Akron, Western Michigan and Buffalo recruiting reports up and on Tuesday night I added Ohio, Miami and EMU. Details are on the site. For a direct link to the VanDelay football recruiting section click the link below.

Good job on the Ohio section Nick. One possible oversight is JUCO WR Chido Nwokocha. You mentioned him in passing, but Scout.com has him listed as a 4-star recruit. If true, he is the highest rated recruit in Ohio history, and joins Va Tech transfer Michael Hinton as the only 4-star players in Ohio history.

Football has a bright future in Athens.

OU always had a lot to sell a recruit as one of the best college towns in the country.

Over the last 20 years Peden has gone from 14,000 seats to almost 30,000 standing room only. Not only is Peden bigger....its a much better facility and looks like a real Division 1-A stadium now.

Jim Grobe was a big upgrade over our previous coaching hires. He knew how to recruit at a smaller 1-A program, and how to run an offense albeit an option offense. He was good enough to get an ACC job.

Frank Solich walks into Ohio with something no coach in Athens had before......1-A head coaching experience. It was the type of hire only a school serious about football would make. He's got a recruiting budget behind him that dwarfs most MAC schools. He has television appearances to help recruiting as most of our games last year were on an ESPN network.

Frank's recruiting is a lot smarter than his predecessor. Knorr's response to all the spread option offenses was to load up on Defensive Backs......its like if we can't join them, we will beat them. Obviously, this didn't work as we still had one of the most putrid offenses in the country. Knorr could not sign a quality WR for the life of him. He tried to sign the best player available, which was often DB's as there is an abundance of them out there.

Frank OTOH, has the attitude that our WR's suck so let's focus all our efforts in signing WR's. Instead of balancing each position by grade level, Frank is focusing on a different position every year to maximize the reloading possibilities. Linebackers......who needs them this year, wait until next years graduation losses. Part of the reason Frank didn't focus as much on WR's last year in recruiting is that OU had a lot of young receivers in the program at the time and thought building the team up front was the priority......now he realizes the WR's blow and the job is wide open for anybody solid at that position.

I know 4-7 wasn't the best start for Frank last year, but don't count him out....afterall George O'Leary made his big improvement in the W column for his second season. The kids have another year with his offense, his weight program....and Frank is now familiar with MAC opponents. If you look at the MAC East, Buffalo and Kent are spinning their wheels, BG and Miami losing QB's, then Akron is at Peden this season.....2006 would be a good time for OU to step up and start winning some games.
Yes. A monster recruiting class by Ohio standards. Not sure how this compares to the elite MAC programs, but Ohio is getting bigger stronger and faster all over the field. QB's have experience and depth,so with the wr, rb's, and QB's the offense should improve a lot. Defense losses Bynum, but returns experience everywhere else. Bobcats have a legit shot at 6 wins or more next year. Team should be able to hang with Missouri, Utah, Lafayette and beat up Tenn-Martin. Coaching staff with be looking to put 05 behind them and will be motivated.

Toledo's going after a 5 star OL that has offers from Toledo, Michigan, Tennessee, and Michigan State. That doesn't mean we have a chance to get the kid though.

While I agree it is unlikely we'll sign either Smith or Lalich, it isn't entirely out of the question. Smith is a Southern Ohio kid, and currently lists Ohio as one of his favorites:

Quote:My favorites are West Virginia, Ohio University, Michigan, Ohio State, Maryland, Georgia and Iowa.

That having been said, I'm guessing that the big boys pull ahead of the Bobcats in that battle.

Lalich, though, may be another story. His family has a long connection to Ohio University and the Athens community. He'd be a third generation Bobcat athlete. I would be surprised, but not shocked, if Lalich chose to follow in his father and grandfather's footsteps, and play for OU.

Don't be stupid KC. First off the alleged statement was that UT might have the chance. There have been other articles about Church that don't say anything about the Big East, and Church said that the main reason he chose Toledo over Cincinnati was because Toledo was the first to recruit him and offer him back during his junior season.

Oh, and of course you don't know that Toledo won't be moving to the Big East in 2 years. ;-)

I think BG fans, NIU fans, Miami fans, and even Ohio fans (when considering last year) would disagree about your statement that UT hogs TV time in football. Several football programs are on TV in football. The majority of them are the top teams in the MAC and that isn't by coincidence.

You'd take Temple all sports over Toledo in a heartbeat............keep waiting, but quite a few people don't think Temple for all sports is ever going to happen; with or without Toledo.

None of us here really know what is going on with the Big East and none of us really know if any MAC schools is going to go somewhere else in the near future. However, I personally have a hard time believing Toledo or any other MAC school is going to go to the Big East in the near future. This is the first time I have said this here, but it's just the rationale you would expect.

Nobody in the MAC has the facilities or the plans in place for the near future, for the facilities needed to fit the majority of the Big East. There are too many other programs out there, like Memphis, that have better facilities and bigger budgets; and they will get chosen before a MAC school.

Like it or not, Toledo is mostly going to stay in the MAC.....and hog all the TV time in football and continue to dominate Ohio on the field. ;-)

From a Huskies fan perspective; if you want to get on TV you have to schedule games that networks would find compelling to broadcast. Over the past 5 years NIU has scheduled MD(twice), Iowa St(twice) Alabama(once) Michigan(once) Northwestern(once), Auburn(once). During Novak's tenure NIU has also played Nebraska and Penn State. Even if you don't win these games if you team performs well enough to make the game competitive, the networks remember that when they schedule the game they will broadcast next season.

I don't know the TV broadcast situation in Ohio. Is there a Fox Sport Ohio? Is there a local Comcast Sports channel? Several Huskie MAC games are broadcast on Comcast while the OOC games have aired on ESPN. Last year's Michigan game and this year's OSU game will likely be either regionally or nationally televised on ABC.
I am not sure if this was ever brought up previously, but the comments by Airport KC and the dissappearance of the infamous Kit-Cat over the past few months seem all too convenient and logical. Kit-Cat does not seem to have left us; just a name-change. Right KC?

Peden had 24,575 for the Pitt game and KC mentioned almost 30,000 standing room. That is way off.

There are numerous other comments made in this thread that are unbelievable. Some Ohio fans, and not just Kit-Cat/Airport KC, need to quit thinking we are God's gift to the MAC. The arrogance amazes me...
