According to the Dallas Morning News, Toledo's AD, O'Brien, is a candidate for the just opened AD position at SMU.

It says he likes the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.

Why don't Toledo fans hope he gets this job? It's getting embarrassing seeing his name repeatedly mentioned as a candidate for other positions. Either hope he gets the job or get rid of this jerk who obviously wants to leave Toledo.
sffalcon. What makes you think that your opinion means anything with respect to Mike O'Brien? Please keep you cheap shots restricted to your own board. MIND YOUR OWN D##M business!

So which campus will Brandon be visiting this weekend? Hasn't he exceeded his offical visits?

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, of course. And it's safe to say that having any basis for that opinion is not a requirement. Mike O'Brien's name is "repeatedly mentioned as a candidate" because they come looking for him. He's done a LOT with VERY little at UT. What I hope for Mike is that he gets what HE wants. What I hope for UT is that we can keep him happy here for a long time.
Embarrassing? You'll say anything to try to get under the skin of Toledo fans. It's good to know we're so important to you.

Why should it be embarrassing? You do realize that candidates are normally chosen by an outside consulting company and not by personal applications, don't you? Most of the time, the prospects have no idea they're being looked at until something like this is said publicly. No, it's not embarrassing for our AD to not be named to a position he never applied for or expressed public interest in.

Mike O'Brien is doing a fantastic job as our AD and I would hate to see him leave.

That is exactly what I was going to say, Karl. I'm really hoping he doesn't go anywhere.
Here's the link. It's the 5th post in the thread where a Dallas Morning News article is cited as mentioning O'Brien.

I think O'Brien has made it clear that he's interested in actively shopping around. And by the way, if BG's AD were to do this, I'd feel we ought to help him leave.

You've got to ask why O'Brien is doing this. I have an idea but Toledo fans probably know better than I do.

You clearly didn't read my post.

O'Brien has actively applied for ONE job since he's been in Toledo, and with his past connections to that area, I fully understand his interest in that position. He has NOT pursued other opportunities...they came to him.
Wasn't O'Brien one of two finalists for the TCU AD position? Wasn't he interviewed in Ft. Worth at least once, maybe twice?

And what about the AD job at San Diego St.?

The point is, O'Brien has made it clear that he's very open to leaving Toledo.

Why aren't you on the BG board asking for the resignations of Brandon and Dakitch then? I think that Brandon was mentioned as a candidate for the Kentucky job or a similar job this past year. After interviewing already with another school and then being mentioned as a candidate for another position or two, it is clear that Brandon is very open to leaving BG. Hell, BG took Dakitch back after he TOOK another job. 04-jawdrop

I think that this is the one where Brandon withdrew his name from the hat after interviewing and realizing that someone else was close to getting the job. lmfao

The TCU job is the one he WANTED and applied for. The SDSU job came looking for him and he didn't apply.
It's March 17, 2006 and Mike O'Brien is still the AD for Toledo. OTOH, it sounds as if BG's AD, Paul Krebs, is on his way out to New Mexico soon. ;-)

Thanks for bumping this back up RR. I wonder if Sante Fe is gonna make an appearance? Im pretty sure that if MOB leaves Toledo hes not gonna take a cheap shot at the MAC. Krebs OTOH, I understand his desire to trash BG on his way out, but there was no need to take a shot at the entire conference as well.

Oh wow. Thanks for tipping me off to that. I just did a search of "Krebs" in the Blade and came up with the article that you are talking about. What a POS thing to say...especially considering that the article said he's a BG alumnus. For those wondering, this is what TJ is talking about:

Quote:Krebs interviewed at New Mexico March 3, and was the first of the candidates to visit. During his day there, he told Albuquerque media, "I come from the MAC, so the Mountain West looks like a BCS conference to us."

I guess from BG's perspective, New Mexico may look like a great team in a great conference, but it doesn't look that way from the perspective of a Toledo or Miami fan.

Apparently, he hasn't seen any "what not to do" articles about interviews. NEVER bad talk your previous situation. It exposes more about your character than it does about the topic of conversation.

What does he do if he doesn't get the job? How do you cross the bridges you just burned?

Dumb...

Or really PO'd.
[Krebs OTOH, I understand his desire to trash BG on his way out, but there was no need to take a shot at the entire conference as well.[/quote]

Why would he need to trash anybody. Yes NM is a fine program not only in football but men's and women's hoops as well. But don't confuse butts in the seats with a winning team because the 2 dont' always correlate. CUSA outdraws the MAC in the $ sports but our head to head bowl record (w/o marshall) is 4-1 outscoring them 210-130.

Another interesting fact I've dug up from researching past year's schedules on the MAC conference site is that since 2000 the MAC is 6-10 vs the Big 12 North. Granted that's not a large number of games for a sample but when you consider that only 3 of these were played at a MAC Site (plus 1 neutral site bowl game) that's a heck of a showing by our conference against opponents from large programs in bigger stadiums that outdraw us 2 or 3 to 1 and outspend us significantly.

This year Toledo has Kansas at home and travels to Iowa St, Ohio travels to Missouri. Frankly those are all very winnable games. Missouri lost their best QB in a generation, Kansas needs to replace nearly their entire defense, Iowa St has 58 FR & RS FR with 15 SR & RS SR's on their roster, they will likely have several positions to fill in their 2 deeps.

A sweep by Toledo and Ohio would give the conference a 9-10 record vs the Big 12 North, an accomplishment that all of us can be very puffy chested about . 04-rock 05-mafia 02-13-banana
