As I understand it, something like $17 or $18 million has been raised in the "silent" phase of the campaign. When they reach $20 million they will announce the project and continue to fundraise but at that point they can stick a shovel in the ground and build it. Total project cost is something like $50 million.
I have 6 million in my budget to spend on commnunications equipment for the facilty.......I'm running under budget by about 800k.
Whatever I have left over is for the roof.

I've often thought a dome would be a cool thing for one of these MAC schools. You can say football is an outdoor sport, but half the time, we blame attendance issues on weather. There are definitely days in the Ohio-Michigan winter when people would rather not hang out outside.
Whether its financially feasible, I don't know.
Idaho's Kibbee Dome takes a lot of heat, although it is an engineering marvel. It's built more like a church than a modern dome, just a huge framed structure with wooden beams. Doesn't hold many people though.
I saw Toledo play in the Carrier Dome, which isn't a bad place to watch a game.

Maybe but I don't recommend it for Akron. The weather in Akron is not that bad most of the time.
The new design has UA's stadium below ground which will provide wind protection and it will be a few degrees warmer on campus than out in the country by the airport.
Another thing I don't like about a dome is it limits the expansion possibilities, example Idaho's Kibbie Dome.
Syracuse is a different animal. They needed a dome because Syracuse gets hit with over 100 inches of snow a year. They also built the dome large enough at 50k to accomadate crowds.
I see UA starting out with a 25k stadium, then like Marshall, wanting to expand it to 40k down the road.
The stadium is going to help Akron with attendance no doubt. People in the city will be able to walk to the games easily.

MAC Football is played in the fall........September, October, November.
I'd like to see the dome idea implemented just because of how quick the weather can change around here and because of how hard it is to attract more fans to the area with threatening weather. I don't think it will happen though. The cost of it would just be too far fetched and the University has made the commitment already not to build the stadium out of student fees/tuition.
