Full Version: Is the O Zone a liability?

Might have been tonight for the Bobcats. The previous experiences with huffing, taunts and yapping got under the skin of the Flashes. This is the pre game quote from DeAndre Haynes:

Quote:"If you lose, they chant your score and say 'losing team', then their score and say 'winning team'. That chant has been getting under my skin for years," Haynes said. "I'd love to get a win over there and say that chant back at them. I don't know if I'd get a technical or not. I would love to shut them up and give them their third straight loss."

And so he did. Flashes by 13 in Athens. Haynes led all scorers with 16.
i wouldn't say it's a liability. it's just the risk you run for cheering with such bravado. some teams can't handle it and fold under it. other teams (like Kent State) take it in stride and use it as motivation. i don't think i'd ever classify any home team's cheering fans as a liability.

i have to ask...do we know if Haynes did the cheer back at the O-Zone or not? would be interesting to find out!
It wouldn't matter if we were sitting down and clapping politely for KSU. I was in the Ozone tonight. We're not a liability.

This team just isn't any good right now. It's not the crowd, it's not revenge factor, it isn't anything.

We aren't any good right now. We'll be lucky to pick up three more wins in the MAC.

I can't remember ever being so disappointed with a team in my life.
we just gotta hope the team can turn it around. if not, then it wasn't meant to be and there's always next year! i still think they will turn it around and make some noise.
The O Zoners' don't like Nate, but he likes them.

From the Record Courier

[quote]Nate Gerwig dreams of these types of games.

A hostile crowd. Several hundred fans in a student section holding up lime-green signs with his name next to a few expletives. Angry chants waiting his every touch.

That unfriendly atmosphere at Ohio University
Actually, the reason fans don't like Gerwig is because he is a thug. The intentional foul, cheap shot on Williams in the Quarterfinals last year was about as dirty as it gets.

That having been said, congrats Kent. You guys are looking scary good.
If the O-zone is a liability, then how much is a liability is Cameron Indoor Stadium?

I'm sure players get extra-pumped to play there against the Dookies, but the Dookies still seem to have some sort of home court advantage.

good analogy!
Yeah, having a loud and organized student section is bad. I know if I was a D1 player I would hate it.

Yeah, right. Coach K. and getting the premier athletes in the country having nothing to do with Duke's advantage.

In the MAC, Kent State has an average crowd, especially for Bulls games. Yet, OU and Buffalo haven't seen a win there in some time. BG is viewed as the toughest arena in the MAC, yet the Flashes are on a five game roll at Anderson.
There were no expletives on the Gerwig signs. They said, Gerwig You Suck along with a message he sent members of the OZone over the internet.

Those responses from Gerwig DID have expletives in them.

THere is no love lost between us and Gerwig. We will never forget the cheap shot he took on our player.

He is a very firey and good player, but the guy is out of control at times (as could be seen last year). Christian sat him in that game and he didn't play the rest of the game.

We have long memories.
The only problem I have with the O-Zone is that they get on refs too early and too harshly and that will bite them in the ass sometime if it hasn't already.

well it almost did, actually, when that LOSER ref got on them at the Akron game for saying bad words! LOL what a joke he is. that's the only time i've ever seen a ref do or say anything against the O-Zone. i love them! they are so full of energy and support, even when times are rough.

That was the game I was referring to. I'm sorry but having 1,000 students point and chant "This ref sucks" is not helping their situation. Though it may be true, their has to be a line drawn somewhere.

it wasn't that. it was when they were yelling "Bull-$hit! Bull-$hit!" like hundreds of other student sections do. and yes technically you are not supposed to use profanity but has anyone ever been to a game where that rule is enforced? it's almost like the 3-second rule! lol but whatever...it hasn't deterred them nor will it, i don't imagine.
