Former 4 star 16th rated WR David Harvey from Penn Hills last year, had to sit out a year to get his academics in order.Harvey is now headed to Akron.
Before we get run through the ringer on the academic thing again. This kid already has his academics in order and did not play last year in order to do so. He should not have to prop and will be eligible to play 4 years.
Akron has quickly taken Marshall's place as the MAC's Prop haven...
Any bets Brookhart's gone within the next two years. The extension will mean "Zip".
How in the he77 is Akron getting all these recruits? It is still Akron... I don't care how nice your facilities are ..It is still Akron.... Miami ..UT can't get those players, but Akron can?

I don't get it....
How about congrats? We pick up a 4-star player into the conference and have the potential to bring in another 4-star player(find out today). Neither player is going to be a prop and fellow poster feel the need to take a shot at the Zips. Our recruiting class is going to be strong again and contain a similiar number of prop to other schools within the conference. Taking a chance on a prop kid is less risky than someone who barely qualifies. Athletes either qualifer or don't, no more partial qualifer status. If a non-qualifier(prop) kid comes to your school, they are not eligible to practice or receive a scholarship. They don't count against your APR until they reach qualifier status and become eligible. If a prop kid is unsuccessful in gaining eligibilty, they are non-factor.
This is a high risk/high rewards scenario for Akron. If all of these players over this recruiting season and last recruiting season can make it academically, the Zips could have a hell of a team in the near future. OTOH, if these guys don't make it academically, the NCAA will not be very nice. I've heard that Brookhart is a car salesman, but he must be a mad gambler too. This guy is crrrraaaaaazzzzzy! This could be a very volatile team and may be able to build a name for themselves like Marshall did as the giant killers.

Congrats... Rivals have Henry as -4- star because he sat out a year otherwise he would be a -5- star... The pick-ups are impressive!

Way to lose to us twice this year wise guy. Sorry to break it to you, but the old Akron you loved to stomp on is gone. Deal with it. Once we have a real stadium, it will be lights out recruiting. Scarry thought, huh? Top of the standings in football and hoops so far. 04-rock Wow, these posts reak with jealousy.

UT is not taking those kinds of risks.......and I don't think anyone else in the MAC is. JD Brookhart is taking the approach of gambling like crazy to elevate his program to the top of the MAC. Only problem is that if it backfires and some of these kids qualify and then later become academic casualties, Akron is going to be in deep doo-doo with the NCAA and their classes aren't going to look so great a couple of years down the road without these kids.

It looks like Brookhart is trying build a quick name for himself, cut a deal with another school in a year or two and leave Akron to deal with any problems he might have caused.High Risk/High Return. The downside for him is not much.

To this point, what is laking in the UA resume is some BCS wins. There best wins so far have been against NIU and Marshall. The Zips need to upgrade that schedule and take more swings at the Big Boys.

Jealousy??? Akron all of sudden gets top recruits from out of no where and NO ONE should ask why? It is still AKRON! I know you have nice facilities, but come on....

Since your a zip fan and I am not from Ohio, tell me why would a player pick Akron over UT or Miami? What are the benefits of attending Akron vs Miami or UT?
Hey Zip Fans!!! Now I remember why I stopped posting on this board.

Too much

Almost every single one of those high profile recruits are academic questions that the big schools didn't want to take a chance on. And neither did UT, Miami, BG, etc.

I'll give you a congratulations. A kid sitting out a year can make a big difference too. Kids grow alot from 18-19.

Why should someone pick Miami or Toledo over Akron? You know nothing about this university and what is being done over here goes beyond facilities. All you hear over there in DeKalb is the loser perception that has been ingrained in this program for a long time. You thought you would run right through us in the fall didn't you?
And if Brookhart leaves, more power to him. We will get an equally attractive candidate in his place.

No you should'nt ask why idiot!! If everyone had the same decision criteria, would'nt everyone go to USC, Florida, Texas? Akron has and will continue to improve in many different ways, you are too ignorant to figure it out. Ahh, it is not worth going into with you.

What a STUPID comment.

Congrats Zips! The defending MAC champs look like they will be strong for a while.
What people are failing to realize is that this kid already has his academics in order. He took a year off to do that and worked hard to get there. He didn't waste any of his eligibility and he is getting paid off big time. JD may be a gambler, but he isn't a stupid gambler. He isn't inviting in kids that have a snowballs chance in hell of becoming eligible, and don't really care if they do. He is inviting in high quality kids who just struggle to a degree when it comes to grades but have the motivation to turn things around. Cry all you want guys, but this isn't the same old Akron.
