I love this topic on food. So I thought we could talk about differnet places for a while.

What do people think are the best Chinese places. There is a place in Hoffman Estates called Hot Wok Village that is incredible.

Does anyone else have any good places?

I would love other ones in the Barrington/Hoffman Estates area.

Excellent - I heard about that place and it is always jammed packed in the parking lot when I go by there. I need to check it out.

Any recommended dishes?
ask baker and simmons. Its about what they most discuss when looking for filler on airwaves.
I enjoy going to my favorite gay Chinese restauarant, The Cocki Leaki. Their soup of the day is to die for: cream of sum yung guy. :shhh:
wow do I really want to follow Dogfan's post.....

Friend's of mine have sworn for years that the best Chinese food around here is Silver Lake ( I think Bartlett).

My advice though is to grab a CHinese friend and go down to Chinatown in Chicago for dim sum. They can steer you right on food.

Diamond garden in carol stream is great. I love their sweet and sour shrimp, mongolian beef, everything.

I remember silver lake being good too. Its on rt. 59 in bartlett next door to blockbuster.
Pine Yard in Evanston. (just a few blocks away from Buffalo Joes 04-rock ). Pretty much everything that I have had there since I was a kid is good. A big difference between them and most other places is that they don't feel the need to coat every dish they have in a thick soupy sauce.

BTW, worst dish ever (regardless of restaurant) = Sweet and sour chicken! 03-puke

There are multiple locations. One in Bartlett on Rt. 59. One on Lake Street in Roselle. I love their Mongolian beef. Yu's Mandarin on Golf in Schaumburg is very good.

Now I am hungry for Chinese Food.
The bride and I were just discussing this same topic for our dinner selection this evening. In the far northwest suburbs the best and I mean the best is a place called "Plum Garden" in McHenry. Several signature dishes plus the mainstreams.

DO NOT order food to go on the weekends as it can be 2-3 hours before it is ready!!! 04-bow 04-rock 04-bow
DeKalb: Happy Wok, I know you'll laugh, but I can't get enough. I lost a ton of weight on the Happy Wok diet in grad school. Yen Ching. Good food, and last I was there, a great atmosphere with the twin sisters who remember everything about your previous visits. J Hops has a good lunch chicken thing but I've never had anything else there.

Non-DeKalb: Big Bowl, I know it's not a chinese joint, but it's asian style dishes and every one I've ever had is fantastic. Plus, the last time I was in there, my waiter was a guy who worked for years at Happy Wok in DeKalb.

There's a Silver Lake on Randall in South Elgin. I had it the other day and it was pretty good.

Continue reading the sentance....he worked at the Happy Wok in DeKalb.
It's Vietnamese, not Chinese, but Bea's Wok 'n Roll in DeKalb (next to Jewel) is my favorite Oriental Restaurant.

She's always coming up with new dishes, like Spicy Chicken served in a Fresh Pineapple, Spicy Catfish, Lemongrass Beef and many others. She makes great Spring Rolls and her different soups are unbelievable! Chicken-Tomato-Garlic is my favorite. Best thing in the world to eat if you have a cold!

The food is always fresh and most dishes are served spicy, unless you tell her otherwise.
House of Emperor in Naperville. Pat Bruno - Sun Times food critic - said that is rivals the best of Chinatown.
How did I miss this important topic?

Anyway, the one above(HOE) is good as is Szechaun Garden in the strip mall across from Fox Valley(or whatever it is called these days). It is right off 59 near the Olive Garden.

Out here, there is a place called Great Taste(correctly named) in New Britain Ct. It is upscale yet casual in a low/low middle income neighborhood(wierd but true). The male staff all wear suits and ties. The tablecloths are cloth as are the napkins. The General Tso's Chicken is awesome. The sweet and sour pork/chicken are good too. Their food is not made from the normal chinese food supplier that many use(ie. Great Wall over in VCB strip mall).

Also, in the town I live in is a place called Little Tibet. It is very good. It is a combination Chinese and Indian.
