I live in NE Ohio and get about 4-5 MAC teams on my radio.
UB must have a super station, because I get them nice and clear
Kent is on fm 100.1 or right there
Akron is on 1300 or 1350
Miami use to be on an fm country station like 104.7 fm
Toledo, I got a football game once on a Saturday but signal was weak.

I can't pick up anyone else. I did get OU/UC on 700. I rush home to get the games on the net. I think OU needs to get a station in their network in the cleveland area. I get ONN, ESPN u, Fsn Ohio, everything else, but radio is nice to when you are driving home. I get Kentucky, Iowa, and Temple, Michigan, Ohio State, but I seem to play with dial finding MAC games. Akron has a pretty good radio guy. He's an OU grad ofcourse. Kent's got Needle as their play by play guy. He does work for the Tribe too. Miami as a nice crew too. They sound like they have a well done production. OU has Derek Scott. He at his best when MAC refs are at their worst.

fortunate for Derek that that is just about all the time! lol
Someone needs to put together a compilation of Derek's greatest whines. They are hilarious normally, but if you are in a bad mood they make you want to scream.

yeah i agree...it has gotten to the point where i can't hardly stand to listen to him call a game. i've gone almost exclusively to following the games on GameTracker or on ESPN Scoreboard or something if it's not on tv or if i'm not there in person...just because he grates on my nerves! God love him, but I can't handle him most of the time! heheheh
Pretty much anyone that has ever listened to Needle will tell you he is agonizing to listen to.

You should be able to listen to NIU games at nite. They are broadcast on WSCR (the Score) a sports talk format station with a 50K watt signal at 670AM. Broadcasts are also "streamed" on the stations website at 670thescore.com. ;-)

UB has most of their games on 50,000 watt WWKB 1520 AM- very strong coverage, especially at night.

Some of their games are on WGR 550 AM, which would actually be the preferred station as it is the 24 hour sportstalk radio station in town. The problen with WGR is the conflict with Sabre games. Switching stations also screws up Teamline, who can't keep up. Some Teamline broadcasts have actully been "The Music of Your Life."

Last year, (and thank God for only 1 year), the Bulls broadcast on a little station in Lockport, NY. The signal was so weak that you could barely here the postgame broadcast from the Alumni Arena parking lot. Midway through the season they redirected their antenae (sp?) so the broadcasts could be heard in Buffalo.

UB broadcasts are a pretty low-budget operation. Only 1 broadcaster announcing the away games. Only about a 10-15 minute pre-game and post-game.

Fortunately, the Bulls announcer, Jim Rosenhaus, is excellent. He also does the Buff Bisons AAA baseball and has a laid-back Vin Scully-like style.
Most of UB's basketball games are on a 50,000 Watt station, WWKB 1520 AM. The football games and some basketball games are on another station, WGR 550 AM, with a much weaker signal.

But WGR is actually the better station because it's consistantly broadcast local programming for more than 70 years. WWKB broadcast satellite only music and talk for more than ten years. They just recently started local programming on WWKB but it gets barely above hash marks.
Bill Needle of Kent State is the worst radio guy in the country. If someone ever points a gun to your head during a broadcast and says they will pull the trigger unless t hey hear the score inside of 15 minutes you are a dead man. The Kent coaches show is a radiothon of errors. Very high schoolish.

Derek Scott of Ohio is almost as bad. He has a terrible voice, screams way too much, and also is lax at giving the score to his listeners. He is a Marshall grad so cut him some slack for the lack of chromosomes.

Miami's Steve Baker is a solid broadcaster and his sidekicks for hoops and grid are prepared.

Steve French is the Akron radio guy. He had trouble telling one player from another in football but is pretty good in hoops. His color guy in hoops is terrible but the Football guy is really good.

Toledo's crew is solid, as is BGs.

The best guy in the MAC is Robin Hook at Western Michigan. He does football, basketball, hockey and baseball. He should be on t he national level doing radio.

I had no idea Derek Scott is a Marshall grad! Learn something new every day! Now I like him even less! ehheehhe
Derek is a WVU grad, NOT A MARSHALL GRAD!

I don't get why some of you don't like D. Scott. He roots hard for the Bobcats, as do all of us. Yes, he is a "homer" to the fullest extent, but I like an Ohio-centric broadcast. He is not afraid to criticize refs, the opposing team's coaches/players/facilities, etc. I remeber this past year for the Akron football game he said "I can't wait to get back to Athens next week so I can broadcast from a real press box." CLASSIC!! 04-rock
i don't know what it is but just something about his delivery or his personality grates on my nerves. i used to listen to him all the time but i just can't seem to do it anymore. he is certainly an enthusiastic announcer and i don't mind (in fact I like) his Ohio bias. there's just something about him that i don't like. but i am glad to hear that he's not a marshall grad! ;-)
A real press box, duh. You'd think after 7 years doing the Ohio football games that he would want to broadcast for a real football team.
