FINAL SCORE:
OHIO 71
BALL STATE 60

Ball State gave us quite a test for most of the game, but in the end our better talent and depth prevailed. Mychal Green and Jeremy Fears had terrible games, but we were able to counter that with good performances by Whitney Davis and Johnnie Jackson.

It wouldn't shock me if Ball State won the weak West Division--who else is there now that NIU and Toledo really aren't looking all that great? I must say that I was quite impressed with Skip Mills and point guard Acker.
yeah it was a good win! (but when is a win not a good win? heeheh)

Ball State pushed us big time. I agree with BobcatsFan that the Cardinals have a good shot at winning the West; then again, a lot of teams still have a shot at winning the West!

it's always gratifying to win a game when you don't play your best. Now we go on the road to face feisty Eastern Michigan...GO OHIO! BEAT THE EAGLES/HURONS!

Funny... if you go to the Ball State board, you'd think the world had ended and the team will never win another game, let alone win a division championship...

It is a frustrating pattern for our team... lead 30 minutes of the game and then pretty much shut down the rest of the way. Foul trouble has caused this to a certain degree, and being terrible from the foul line (7-14 with at least 3 front ends missed at key points late) certainly isn't helping. Youth and inexperience are also factors (after Stovall went down and Yates was kicked off, only 3 guys have minutes prior to this season), but it is infuriating to watch.

I think they'll be good in time and may just compete for that division championship, but it could very easily go the other way if they lose any more confidence after this killer stretch (@Drexel, IU, Akron, @Ohio, @Kent, Miami, @Buffalo).

NIU, weak? The Huskies beat Buffalo in an exciting 0T last Sat 84-80. SHooting was streaky but the HUskies are a veteran team with size and don't turn the ball over often. The HUskies have wins over Big 12 (KSU) and Big East (DePaul) teams. Don't be surprised if the Huskies win 20 this year. 04-chairshot 05-mafia

I don't see why Cardinals would be upset. They played Ohio tough on the road.

We are the defending champs for peat sake!

Ball State hasn't won in Athens since 1998.

Ohio has won 20 out of its last 21 home games....

And none of that matters to Ball State fans. Ball State fans expect championships, and the current coaching regime has reduced them to the point where they actually have to hope for an upset. And until quite recently, no MAC victory by Ball State was ever considered an upset.

That's mainly why BSU fans are ticked at the loss. That, and the fact that it's about the 20th winnable game that turned into a MAC loss for a Tim Buckley-coached team in the past 3-4 years...

Well, I guess that means expectations have not been met for quite a while!! lmfao

Sorry for the triple posts. I don't know what happened.

Miami, Ball State, and Ohio are the three best all-time basketball powers in the MAC. Ball State has excelled in the MAC tournament. That 1995 tournament win sent a 23-9 preseason Nit champion to the NIT. That year the MAC deserved 3-4 bids and got just 1. Miami,Ohio, and EMU were all very strong, but Ball State won the bid. Wasn't Payne the big star for BSU that year? He was a great MAC player for Ball State while I was at OU in the early Trent years.
You are correct. Steve Payne was the tournament MVP in 95. A young Bonzi Wells also made the all-tournament team.
I am well aware of Ball State's good basketball history, but you still haven't won anything since 2000. To be "expecting championships" is perhaps too high an expectation, at least for this year. The Cardinals may very well win the pathetic West Division, but they are only the 6-7th best team in the league. Hope to meet you (and beat you) again in the MAC tournament.

The MAC got two bids that year. Miami, who won the regular season title, got an at-large bid and won their first-round game.

We won the West Division in 2002, as well. And clearly you don't understand: we expect championships every year. We'll see how "pathetic" the West is come tourney time. Hope to see your talented, overconfident team melt down again during the stretch run just like your '95 team.
