I was shocked to see Toledo finishing #26 ap and #29 coaches. down year for the mac, blowout losses to Fresno and NIU on national tv, and wins over Temple, western ill, western mich, eastern mich, ball st., buffalo, ohio, bg and utep gets you ten votes from the top 25?!?

Looking back at the huskie season, opportunity lost.

Opportunity lost?? What was supposed to be a rebuilding year was the only championship year for the Huskies in over 20 years. Hardly a lost season.

Clearly opportunity lost. Lose to NWestern, Akron 2x and ball st at home? Win half those and were in the top 25. Yes, opportunity lost.

Maybe you saw 05 as a rebuilding year. I did not.
Every year should be a "Reloading" year, not a "rebuilding" year.

Under Joe, every year is a rebuilding year. 10 years no MACC championship.

Rather than focusing on the negative, allow me to put a positive spin on this. If Toledo finished with top 25 votes after what most people are calling a down year for the MAC, maybe it shows that there is more respect for the MAC than most people think.
Scheduling, and losing to, big conference teams like Michigan, NU, Ohio State, Iowa, LSU, etc. has a much more negative impact in the polls than scheduling, and beating, patsies. You see the results in Toledo's ranking. Is scheduling, and losing to, the big boys helping us (except in the wallet)? It's wins that count, not losses. We should schedule some good mid-level teams, mixed in with the patsies. Take the wins, get through the MAC in decent fashion, and head on off to a bowl.
One or two big paydays might help get the AAPC built and eventually the indoor practice facility.

It would probably be best to keep it to two a year and eventually one.

Frankly I have been surprised how well we have been doing against the bigger and better funded programs in the BCS conferences.
i have no problem with scheduling one powerhouse a year. theyre really a no lose situation, theyre always exciting games and the money directly helps the program. i think what we have to work on is getting back to scheduling beatable competitve mid-level ooc programs at home (the iowa states, etc). thats what i think has been lacking. no one wants to see crappy div 2a schools, with the exception of good in state rivalries, like siu. id also like to see less of an emphasis on the weeknight games soley for tv exposure. limit it to one a year if you have to.

You have a solid point dog fan. the other side to that coin is (and I think its the staff's philosophy) is they schedule these games to help recruit kids. "You wanted to play in the big 10, well were playing the big 10 and the best of the big 10, SEC, etc..." Its a great tool for recruiting.

I personally like their scheduling. One marquee name, a middle of the road BCS team (Iowa st, NU, Iowa, wake), a I-AA at home, and hopefully a home and home with a mid major.

What killed us with the was games played that we had a darn good chance of winning within the mac, thus "opportunity lost"
I was listening to the score today and they mentioned how Ohio State had revenues of $89 million for their athletic department. To keep up with the Jones, NIU must have two big pay days in their schedule. What is NIU's budget $89. Seriously, Is NIU's revenue 1/10 of that. Hard to compete money wise but we do a good jog on the field.

We need to get a football coach that will allow us to compete in the MAC. Going on 11 years without a MACC is a disgrace.
