Press conference at 5:00 to announce if he is staying or leaving. My bet is he goes. Good luck Omar.
my guess is that he will be back even though his RBs and WRs graduated - his stats were not nearly as good this year and he was hurt - wait a year and a 5th round draft choice can become a 1st or 2nd rounder along with much more cash

good luck to him on his decision, I hope he stays
I could be wrong, but I think he is a 2nd or 3rd round pick if he goes this year. If he stays and assuming he has a really good year, he will probably be a late first round pick or early 2nd round pick.

I got this feeling he is going pro, but I know BG fans sure hope I am wrong. I guess we will see tomorrow.

You really think he is a fifth round pick? If that's the case, he would be crazy for leaving.

There is an incredible lack of QB talent in this draft, especially if Young stays at Texas. Given that, there is no way Omar lasts more than two rounds, IMO.
ESPN Insider seems to think he could be a late first round pick if he leaves this year:

Omar Jacobs
QB | (6'3", 224) | BOWLING GREEN

Scouts Grade: 90

Strengths: Possesses ideal NFL measurables. He has great size. Is tall, well-built, long arms and big hands. He has good arm strength. He shows good touch and the ability to change velocities. He throws catchable passes underneath and has a feel for leading his receivers. Extremely accurate in short-to-intermediate range. Lacks vertical passing experience but has the arm to make all the NFL throws. Can drive the ball downfield. Shows good zip on the deep out route and gets adequate R.P.M.'s on his downfield throws. He's an excellent athlete. Has quick feet and can get set quickly. Shows a good pocket presence and buys a lot of second-chance opportunities with his athleticism. He is a threat to take off and run. Has above average speed and some elusiveness to make defenders miss in space. A confident player that will bounce back from mistakes.

Weaknesses: Displays mechanical issues. Is unpolished. Does not possess great experience throwing the deep ball and his timing must improve in that area. Lacks ideal patience in the pocket at times and will take off running too early. Plays in a simplified offense with a simplified passing scheme. Most of his throws are underneath. He will have a steeper learning curve in terms of making reads and seeing the entire field as an NFL quarterback.

Overall: Played sparingly as a backup to Josh Harris (Browns) in 2003. Took over as a fulltime starter as a sophomore in 2004, when he threw for 4,002 yards and rushed for 300 more. He completed 66.9-percent of his 462 passing attempts and threw 46 TD passes compared to just four INT's on the season. Jacobs is a junior in 2005 and has not indicated what his intentions are regarding his NFL future. Jacobs has all the physical tools to develop into a starting quarterback at the NFL level. He has great size, as well as good arm strength and mobility. He is an accurate short-to-intermediate passer and has developed into a solid decision-maker. Jacobs will, however, need a lot of work in order to polish his game for the next level. His release point is too low and his consistency as a deep-ball passer needs to improve. He also comes from a pass-friendly, shotgun-oriented offensive scheme, which means he could require more developmental time than other quarterback prospects with similar skill sets. As it stands right now, Jacobs is considered a potential first round prospect should he choose to enter the 2006 draft.
at this point he is far too raw by NFL standards to be anything higher than the 3rd round, with the injury, 4 or 5 could be possible depending upon his workout/combine

stay in school one more year and he is an almost certain 1st rounder - pending an injury
mossmaidi, that ESPN info was written before the 2005 season started. So don't take it too seriously. It's a little outdated.
After getting hurt this season, I think he'll leave.

I'm sorry to see him go, but I wish him well.

I believe 2nd round is reasonable.

"There is an incredible lack of QB talent in this draft, especially if Young stays at Texas"

Compared to what? It's this way most years. (You just don't have the media overhyping players like Grossman, Boller and Losman) Although Young is clearly the player to drool over.

The bigger thing to consider is: who needs a QB in the NFL? Det, Cle, NO and GB (Bal but they won't admit it)... Brooks will be available to one of them and Rivers will probably be dealt too, and plenty of back ups will be around (Harrington, Ramsey)...so there isn't huge demand.

Still, I think he goes pro, and gets taken in the 2nd round.

For the record, I say Cle should go for Young and Detroit should try to snag Brooks. If Cle can pick up Arrington from free agency, and Detroit concentrates on OL and DBs from draft, they'll both do well. GB will go for Leinhart, giving him a year of tutelage under Favre...which I don't think will work out. Leinhart has disappointed me, and I think he won't be great.

Compared to what?

Compared to next year. 2007 draft will include Young, Quinn, Vick just to start.

Do you watch the NFL? Do you realize how many teams need a QB? Right now, I would say these teams are definitely looking for a QB: NO, Ten, NYJets, Raiders, Lions, Cardinals, Miami. These teams probably should be as well: Texans, Bills, Rams, Bal, Dallas, KC, TB, Chi.

About the only teams you could bet on not taking a QB on the first day (due to age, injury, performance) are NE, Cin, Pit, Indy, jax, SD, Giants, Atl, and Seattle. Everbody else honestly could pick a QB early. When the market is thin as it is this year, Omar goes no later then the second round. If he does, I'll eat a bug.
The Dolphins have the #16 pick.If Jay Cutler(Vandy) is availible the Dolphins probably will go with him.Otherwise they'll be looking to pick-up a QB in the 4th or 5th round.Miami will be also looking to pick-up a guy with at least 2-3 years of NFL experience to move in as a starter through free agency.Rivers would have been a good option, but with Drew's injury out in San Diego it doesn't look likely. Any drafted QB will be looking at best the #3QB slot with the Dolphins.
having trouble with their server, (It's okay now) but when I 1st saw the article I thought it had info from a Mel Kiper chat of this week.

When Mel chats, I pay attention.

Mel strongly suggested that he go back to school.

Please Omar go back.

Apparently NFL teams do as well...which is unfortunate for them. Mel is a moron. He's wrong as at least as often as he's right when evaluating a player.
I think he'll leave based on not beating UT again and no bowl. If he loses to UT 3 straight times he'll be a proven non winner. ;-)

This outta break it into the open!!!!!

Vick doesn't impress me. 2006 doesn't look worse than 2007, but Young is the coup de grace for either draft.

You're right about the Jets...but that just leaves Pennington on the market as well. And you're right about the Titans. However, the Bills just took Losman. Chicago and TB have young QBs too! I mentioned Bal. The Texans have Carr (who is respectable). So your list is highly exaggerated.

Teams that keep chasing QBs tend to keep losing as well. You may be right that these teams do choose to draft a QB early, but that doesn't mean they should.

Now, if I'm Houston and Vince Young comes out, I try to trade Carr and take Young.
Carr is due an $8 million bonus if he is on the Texans roster come March (or April) 1. They could easily pass on paying that and draft a QB this year.

Losman was benched in favor of journeyman Kelly Holcomb this year. What does that tell you?

And while Chicago and TB do have young QBs, that doesn't make them GOOD QBs. They could be looking for an upgrade, is my point.

How does Cle get Young??? Young goes in the top 3 and will be long gone before Cle drafts.
Browns have Frye and he did well this year for a rookie. They have other needs than qb.
Vick is in trouble again, Quinn will stay at ND, and Young should go pro.

Jacobs may be a 1st day pick only if he has a strong showing at the Combine/team workouts.

Duh. That's right. Cle is alright at QB.

Personally, every time I saw LenDale White, he was running for big yards. If I'm an NFL team, I keep an eye on him.
Who? lol

Oh yeah, that stud QB who kicked our azz in last year's GMAC Bowl. He's damn good.
