IMO Phil should be the starter, but I think Dan could win it by default. Our starting WRs (Britt and Perez) are stretch the field guys. Fast and jukey, so that is an advantage to Dan.

the same people that voted for Phil probably also want Kyle Orton to start ahead of Rex Grossman. Even Blake gives us a better chance to win.

No, I voted for Phil and the Bears should start Rex. The 2 situations don't relate to each other.
Dan is the correct choice - not only for next year - but what next year means to the future of NIU football.
Dan's development into an outstanding player, and one who would have a solid year+ of starting experience as a junior would be awesome.
If NIU wants to rise above the "good" non-BCS teams to the great ones they need to have a great QB for several years.
Phil starting is a waste! And he has no arm, you can't live on 5-10 yard passes forever.

I'm not going to use stats to justify my argument. My justification was received at CMU, when I witnessed his on-field performance. This guy has some accuracy in his long ball - IMO, something we sorely missed from the days of Haldi to Sheldon/Fleck.

Not applicable. He didn't finish the game. How do we know he wouldn't have lost it?
Dan has all the tools you need in a starting D-1 QB. Novak would have probably made Nicholson the starter for the entire 2005 season, but he was hurt a lot while in the running for starting QB. Hence, making Phil the starter because of more prior experience.
Who managed to beat Toledo @ the Glass Bowl and got to the MACC for the first time in school history? There's your answer.

As the coach, I think if you get a chance to see Dan's skills in practice enough, then he could have been the starter.

And that's not the point. Dan beat Toledo & WMU and Phil didn't. All Phil did was lose to Ball St. and throw floating knuckleballs all year.

Dan didn't beat Toledo or WMU. The defense and Garrett Wolfe did, both things Phil didn't have in the Ball State game.
We can play this game. All Dan did was miss wide open recievers in the biggest game in NIU history and hold on to the ball too long.

G, let's get real! A couple of the sacks in the Toledo game were blind-side blitzes. And, Dan wasn't putting the ball up for grabs, like Gradkowski did in that game. The ESPN announcers commented several times on how Dan outplayed Gradkowski.
Believe me, and I was at the game, the wind was really swirling! It made Dan's performance all the more impressive. Check out his TD throws to Nordin and Raleigh. Both were difficult touch passes that were perfectly thrown. And, Britt Davis dropped another perfect TD pass!
The combination of a very good opponent, a difficult place to play, the weather conditions and the pressure of having to win to have a chance at the MAC West title make Dan's performance really special, IMO! And, it was his first start!

Yes, and look what Phil did in his 1st start. If it wasn't for the refs screwing up the clock he would have had us in position to win @Maryland. I watched the Toledo dvd after you dropped it off yesterday, and while a couple of the sacks were not his fault others he held onto the ball way to long.

0-1-0-0. Northern Illinois-NICHOLSON, Dan 7-17-0-110.
Above are the stats from the Akron game and Dan's passing was, to say the least, the weak part of our game. yeah he beat CMU, WMU, and toledo, but lost to Akron. Think positive, we have two starting QB's and that is not a bad situation to be in!
