With few Memphis fans and no B10 opponent, wonder what the attendance will be this year....I'm guessing that it'll be down quite a bit. At the same time, kudos to Akron for selling out their ticket allotment of 9400...very impressive!
Local MAC fans need to show!! What else do you have to do the day after Christmas?

So, what, are we predicting maybe 9500 at the game? hehhe

By the way, when i watched what little i watched of the GMAC Bowl it seemed there was no one in the stands. i'm surprised i haven't heard anyone moping about that on this board. interesting!
I think that the stands were reasonably full at the beginning of the GMAC, but they are mostly locals and with the cold weather they began to "bail out" quickly as the rout was on. Toledo fans say that they had 8,000 there, but I never saw that big a block of UT fans, esp. in the second half. The reason that the C-USA guys aren't making hay about the relatively poor attendance is that UTEP only sold 1,000 tickets, and had far fewer than that in attendance.

Someone posted that although all (40K) tickets were distributed as they say, the official attendance at the beginning was 35K...I never saw an official attendance figure myself.....looked like 30K tops may have been on hand at the beginning.

Official attendance was listed as 35,422 and that was pretty much on the money. The locals, who do support the bowl, began leaving before half time and the exodus continued when Toledo scored in the third quarter.

Although the Toledo claim of 8,000 fans might be a little exaggeration, there were several thousand Rocket fans at the game. The GMAC Bowl officials and the Mobile people were very pleased with the Toledo turnout, saying it was the best of any MAC team that has played in the game.

Actually, I have been told that there was about 10K Rocket fans there. Of course not all bought tickets through the UT ticket office.
I agree with RF there. Especially since the UT and GMAC administration had stated that it was the best turnout from the MAC at that game, including when Marshall played and I believe that Miami had a good turnout somewhere around 7000.

As I stated on another thread, I would guess UTEP had somewhere between 3000-5000 and UT probably had between 9000-11000. I guessed that 36000+ were in attendance and then I found that the box score listed 35400, so that was pretty close. Early in the first and late in the fourth, UT and UTEP fans made up most of the attendance in the stands. Neither teams' fans were in one area but were spread out around each side and the endzone. Hell, I paid for the $50 tickets but sat in the $15 area much of the time. The UT crowd looked much bigger from the endzone than it did sitting in D section.

A couple years ago, there were 5000 UT fans at the spring game. This crowd looked much bigger than that, so I'm confident in the UT and GMAC administrations' statements. Personally, I normally wouldn't care about it, but since it always seems to be a hot topic on this board, I paid attention to it.

The El Paso Times stated that there were only about 400-500 UTEP fans that made the trip for the game...making Toledo's turnout (and the MAC's support of the GMAC Bowl) even more impressive.
oh ok...i guess i must have turned on the game after halftime. now that i think of it, i did. that explains it!
