Had a chance yesterday to speak with WMU head coach Bill Cubit and WMU AD Kathy Beauregard and both reported that Broncos QB Ryan Cubit just had the screws removed from his leg and he is progressing well in the healing and rehab process. Western hopes to hear shortly on their request for a medical redshirt for Cubit.

Whether Hiller is better than Cubit is pretty irrelevant at this point. Hiller's leg injury is pretty severe, and it looks at best like he MAY be back just in time for fall camp. Even then, who knows if he'll be 100% and ready to play. I would not be surprised in the least if Hiller is given a medical redshirt next year to make sure he is completely healed. No use in bringing him back too quickly and risking a potential career ending injury. That means no QB controversy if Cubit is granted another year (which I think is unlikely).

just might be Cubit and the JUCO and med. redshirt Hiller.

Is Cubit better than Hiller? Tough deal for the coach since it involves his son. Who gives WMU a better chance to win - Hiller or Cubit?

The apparent severity of Hiller's injury may make the decision a lot easier, assuming Cubit is granted another season of eligibility. If Hiller is anything less than 100% and Ryan Cubit is available, I'd think you'd go with him, possibly a JUCO, and one of the younger QBs to be named.
so did Temple do WMU a favor by taking out their QB... It seems it turned the season around? :domokun:

WMU has also gone the JUCO route in bringing in a QB, Thomas Peregrin. I think there are doubts right now about how quickly Hiller can come back from the injury.
It's highly unlikely that Cubit gets another year and Hiller's injury was so severe that even if he is technically healthy and rehabbed by fall I suspect they will redshirt him.

The Broncos have a redshirt Freshman QB from Canada, Caleb Clark returning, along with Alex Engram and the juco Peregrin coming in to compete. Should Cubit get another year, he'll have some competition, but most likely will start, as he has the best grasp of Bill Cubit's offense.
Hiller was operating with a restricted playbook, to make things easier for him.

I've had a severe knee injury that was not as bad as Hiller's, and those that have been there will tell you that even with a rehab program and the hard work, once you are "healthy" it will be the better part of a year from then when you have full confidence in the knee and can operate without even thinking about it.
Unconfirmed report today on Broncos Illustrated is that Cubit was granted the extra year. Waiting for official confirmation. 04-cheers

That would be unusual that the NCAA would make the official waiver already in December. They may have said that it is likely to happen, but the official medical hardship usually doesn't happen this early.
Engineer,

Still playing the role of village idiot I see.

Cubit will play next year, confirmed.

What do you mean by calling me Engineer???

Instead of calling me a village idiot, read my post again Einstein. I said it would be unusual. So if the NCAA did give him a medical waiver already, it would still be unusual, and I never said it wouldn't be possible and wouldn't happen. I would be pretty willing to bet that the NCAA has said he will be able to receive a waiver and the actual paperwork has not been signed off on yet though.

So, who is the village idiot?
Rocket,
That was not for you but victory engineer who still continues to find positives in cheap shotting and breaking Cubits leg. See above post.

As for you you are by far one of the best posters on the board. His 6th year was highly unlikely to him as well and your analysis was accurate the development was suprising to all.
