Good pick !!
Look out MAC! Al Golden is the real deal, we will start kicking some ****** in the near future.
Thank God- hopefully this man can bring your school back it's dignity.
Just about everything Temple could want - Big-time D-IA experience and ties to the region. Great hire.

Looking forward to getting down to The Linc to see the new & improved Owls next year.

OTOH: No previous head coach experience, UVA has NOT demonstrated consistent and obvious success on the field (despite having a former NFL HC at the reins), and Temple is still Temple.

This is a no lose situation for Golden. If he succeeds, it's a huge badge of honor. If he fails then, "It was Temple" and he returns as a coordinator who has HC experience for his next interview.

This may be better than their last coach, but it's not a clear 'Hooray' for Temple or the MAC.
Yes to be a clear winner for the MAC we need picture from a police dashboard mounted camera or a MUG shot.

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree. I think that short of a "big name" coach (which clearly wasn't in the cards), this is about everything Temple could want. Golden will get this team moving in the right direction and that is good for the MAC.

Question, how much head coaching experience did the current MAC champs top man have before taking the job?

Golden will have to clean house. Temple has a number of "characters" in their program as evidence by the 8? players who were ruled inelgible before the season. I will be shocked if Golden puts up with that nonsense. Temple will take some beatings for the next couple of years then s/b competitive in 08.

Your program is a mess. BTW, to all the Temple fans who talk how about how you're going to kick but, can you please wait to you win a couple of games. Those fans typify the players that are in the program now and that nonsemse has to go as well.

Golden is a good pick.

You are right that previous HC experience is overrated. Re-tread coaches rarely do well, and obviously Temple wasn't going to hire Pete Carroll away.

However, I do think that UVa performance is nothing to crow about. Both KSU and Temple's hires leave me a bit puzzled (KSU more than Temple).

As for the MAC champ's HC experience, may I point out that he inherited a team w/ a winning record. That's much different than one that's 0-11.

And that's why I don't expect Temple to compete out of the box. I do believe Golden will win a few games in his first year. In three or so years, I'd expect him to be in the hunt for a division title.
HuskiesRule - you are right - we need to win a game before thumping our chests. But the ineligibles were an embarrassing situation where our compliance office screwed some kids over. A number were reinstated, others were JC kids who didn't have enough credits towards graduation who will be back this year.

So yes, we need to clean house - do a better job administratively - but it's not like Golden is inheriting a team ala South Carolina with more kids in cuffs than in class. Of course, he's also not inheriting a team with a whole lot of Div I-A talent.

The task will be enormous. But if we've done anything right, hiring Al Golden is at the top of the list. People in the area remember him catching a huge TD for PSU against Notre Dame. He's from the region and has recruited it very well. He's a great hire.

Evidently he'll be making 3.45 mil over 6 years - wow. Paying for our futility.

3.45mil/ -6- years... Big $$$$$.... I am not sure any MAC school is willing or capable of paying out those numbers....

Golden, IMO will take the the long way to success emphasizing doing things the 'right' way, bringing in STUDENT athelets who can and will compete cademically. He will not try bring in a boatload of JC players.

Good Luck.....

Torch,
Agree completely w/the KSU hire. UVA under[performed as bad as anybody, including Tennessee on offense. They have studs and losing 3 coaches to HC's in the past month is interesting since their results were subpar.

KState made a bad hire. TU is lucky to get Golden. Funny thing Cubit ( MAC coach of the year taking a 1-10 team to 7-4) interviewd for the TU job when Wallace got the job.

Victory Engineer,

I hear the athletic budget @ Temple was going so bad the yearbook for Temple had their athletic pictures taken from Philly's police station for the last few years, instead of taking new ones to save money.
got to love this quote from todays PC

"We have the best university, the best city and the best facilities in the MAC. The future looks bright on North Broad Street as we enter a new era in Temple Owl football.
