UTEP was headed for their division championship but lost two at the end to mediocre teams. It looks like TO's are what did it. In one of those last two games the QB Jordan Palmer had 4 INt's and two fumbles.

Sound kind of familiar.

I remember that they were one of the non-BCS teams that some media people had their eyes on as possibly going undefeated this year. I watched them play North Texas (I believe). Their running back is good...but is plastered with tattoos.
This should be a helluva battle between the coaches, especially at the luncheon.

Just imagine if they have a buffet, and strippers jump out of a cake this year!!! 03-wink

If a team has a bunch of Terrell Owens-like players, that's bound to happen.

Hey, let's not get down on Tattoos.... :D
Wasn't there a UTEP fan talkinf trash to Toledo fans a year or to ago? He was saying that UTEP was better than UT and was doggin us b/c they drew more attendance than us. Well now we will see who's better.

Might have been since we have our share of knucklehead fans just like all message boards do. But really, why would a Toledo or UTEP fan be saying anything to each other a year or two ago? Might have been during the period that C-USA was considering UTEP for one of their expansion spots. If you will remember, UTEP was quite the joke to MAC fans. Lots of MAC fans felt compelled to make UTEP jokes probably because of all the losing we were suffering from in FB and that will definitely cause some smack to come out, warranted or not. But a bowl last year in Houston and this year in Mobile has really enthused the fans. We did average over 47,000 at home this year and about 42,000 last year. Things are looking up for us right now.

You guys, on the other hand, are used to winning seasons. I'm really looking forward to the matchup and it looks like another high scoring affair as usual for the GMAC Bowl. Many of us Miner fans expected to go to the Ft Worth Bowl since it would be so easy for tons of Miner fans to make that trip. And it would have made sense for UCF to go to Mobile since they are so much closer. Any idea of how many Rocket fans you expect to make the trip?

Good luck guys. See you down south in a couple of weeks.
I'm going to need some background info on UTEP before I start pulling out predicitions. I just hope it's a classic with Toledo winning this one.
I think this is a great match-up of teams that had their hopes of a Conference Title dashed. I have actually followed UTEP this season, and watched the kick the sh*t out of Marshall ( :) ) and I enjoyed it.

But, this should be a good stepping stone for both schools. UTEP's program has seen a rapid momentum swing since the hiring of their new coach (Price I believe? from Alabama).

Toledo is ready to make the step ahead. With a win in the GMAC Bowl, I feel Toledo will make a solid name for itself. I hear people joke about UT all the time, saying they only have winning seasons cause they are in the MAC. Its our shot to show that we win because of our program, fans, and our coach and not because of the conference. Let's show em Rocket football, and get a good solid win for a stepping stone.

GOOOOOO ROCKETS!

I enjoy just hearing about it... :)

In a way it would have been interesting to play UCF since they used to be in the MAC. You know they would have brought a lot of fans. The only thing I can think of is that the GMAC people must figure that they draw enough attendance locally that they go after what they consider the most interesting "matchup" as opposed to selecting a nearby institution that could bring a lot of fans. Just a guess...

Unfortunately, I think the GMAC people were looking to exploit Mike Price's indiscretions again, bringing him back to Alabama. I guess they figured it will bring lots of press and put some Bama fans in the seats to jeer him. Most UTEP fans were hoping for the Ft. Worth bowl, since it would be easier to travel to and we have a lot of alumni in that area. I don't think we'll take many fans to Mobile. It is an interesting matchup, though. Looking forward to a lot of offensive fireworks. Two exciting offenses usually makes for a good bowl game.

Good luck to you!

In addition to beating Marshall (like them -UTEP- already), UTEP also beat Tulsa who won the C-USA Championship on Saturday. UTEP was on track to the C-USA Championship as mentioned before, but they lost their last two conference games vs. UAB (5-6) & SMU (5-6), this allowed Tulsa to go the the Championship game.

Should be a great game, always good when we can play a new team.

Go Rockets!
Should be a great game.
