A hell of an exciting game with an excellent finish and the final play comes in at number 9 on the Top 10. Number 8 is some 80 year old woman driving her family around in the Oscar Mayer Weiner Mobile. No respect at all I tell ya.
Did the Zips fans dropping Zippy make the list? Now that was funny.
In our defense Zippy can be a bit of a jerk. Last night at the Basketball game he took my half eaten box of popcorn and dumped it on the head of the guy in front of me. After that I think he deserves it. 03-lol
That is pretty audacious.
Do you die-hard Zip fans think this victory will jump-start a resurgence in fan support?

I'll deem it so if Akron can bring 10K to Motown for the MCB. And all of you MAC fans within a couple of hours drive to Ford Field.... go out and support the Zips toward another MAC bowl victory!

Actually, I thought he was a pinhead.
This will do a lot for attendance. This campus is starting to believe in our athletics.

Great to hear! That is what you want to see when a new team wins it! It is time for the UA students and alumni to back the Zips! 04-rock
I'm happy for Akron to get a chance to show what they can do, but still pissed that they lost to ARMY!!!!!!!!! If Akron can keep the momentum going, good things will happen. NE Ohio is a hotbed of athletic talent. They don't even need to recruit from more than 5 hours away to keep tons of great talent. Congrats Akron!

I agree. But can they make it over 15,000 before they are demoted to 1AA under the attendance policy?

*Please note this is not meant as a slam, this is a serious question.

We made 15,000 last year, so we aren't in jepordy, and plus weather played a huge roll in attendance this year. We sold 27,000 tickets for Army and only 11,000 showed up in a miserable downpour. A midweek game against Ohio with tornado warnings only drew 8,000. And last but not least, by far the worst weather for a college football game anywhere in the nation this year against Kent State drew 9,000. With this championship and hopefully smarter scheduling, I could see the Zips averaging over 20K next year. What you've got to understand about people in Akron is that they are fairweather fans to the 1,000th degree. Back when we were kicking butt in 1-AA we had some of the best attendance outside OSU in the state. Akron people only come out for a winner and in good weather and hopefully that's what we'll have from now on.

Also, I'm fairy certain the NCAA did away with the attendance policy.

The attendance rule is still there, but there are fairly easy ways to get past it......I think. Anyway, the rule in place now just went into effect this year so if you were under 15K this year then you go on to the next phase......which seems to be fairly easy to pass as it can be butts in the seats or tickets sold and it is something like once in 2 years or something like that.
My favorite thing to yell at Zippy is "Yo Zippy, show me your pouch!"
Akron has shown they can mobilize their fans in decent numbers if something is at stake. The Marshall game last year is a good example of that.
I think fans everywhere are a little more fairweather these days. But Akron fans haven't had a lot of reason to show up until the last couple years.
You also have to consider where we come from when looking at the fanbase. It is northeast ohio where we haven't won any kind of significant championship at the collegiate or pro level other than indoor soccer since the '60's. To a lot of NE Ohio people the zips are just another team to disappoint and or constantly rebuild ala the Browns, Indians, Cavs. Hopefully now that we have finally won something people will start to get on the bandwagon. I don't mind bandwagoners at all because so long as we continue to win we will keep them coming back to the point where they aren't bandwagoners anymore, they are just fans.

Well one thing you can say about this obviously, if this doesn't do it, nothing will.

On this we can agree! Bravo to both teams for a good show. 04-bow

You know, rain really seemed to follow the Black Knights this season. CMU's game at West Point was played in a virtual monsoon.
