And car was facing against the traffic? Is he OK? Are Ohio fans a little tick at him at the moment?

Glad he wasn't hurt at least physically.
I'm sure many Ohio fans feel like Solich should be fired because of this (and I can understand why some people say this). But, I think that Solich made a horrible mistake, like most of us have done in their lifetime.) His record is completly clean and I don't think that he should be terminated because of this one incident.

I think the University and Solich are handling this well so far. At the press conference today, McDavis announced that he will continue as Ohio's coach, but will be on probation for their rest of his time here with a no tolerance policy. He also has to face these events publically and also become a large part of the campaign to raise awareness for the dangers of alcohol. I am encouraged that they are turning this horrible event into a teaching opportunity. Both the AD and the prez said that they talked extensively about the possiblity of firing Solich, but they decided to give him another chance and get him help as well as getting him to help others.

Solich also spoke at the press conference:
[quote]“I’d like to apologize … and I’d like to extend that apology ... to all those associated with OU, the people in the Athens community, my coaches, their families, players, families.
It's posted today on the BuckeyePlanet forum that All-Ohio Div.II DE Kris Luchsinger 6'4" 226 lbs.from Cols.Watterson maybe rethinking OU because of the incident.
I've had 3 DUI's (1989 and 2 in 1991...that was a bad year) in my life so I won't pass judgement on the man. It is a horrible feeling for sure.

Hopefully, everything works our for Solich.

Given that fact that he was practically incoherent, I think that he has a real problem. Not sure what it is. Many of us have made mistakes and gotten behind the wheel. I am wondering why a guy like that goes out gets that hammered. It's not like he was with his bachelor party.
It was, to the day, the two year anniversary of his being fired from Nebraska. Not a justification or excuse, but likely a reason.

I hope he isn't looking back like that.

I was fired once. It was the worst experience of my life. Unemployment for 2 1/2 months was unbearable.

But out of that I found my perfect job. And I don't ever look back.
As far as I know this is completly out of character for him. An extensive background check was performed on all the candidates, and he had a clean record. No one in Nebraska ever saw him even drink, no one has every heard of anything like this. I hope he gets everything straigtened out.

Making light of a serious situation, but wouldn't you if you went from coaching Nebraska to coaching OU?

Boy guys, seems to much to be a coincidence, don't you think?

That's sad, indeed. Hope he gets it together.
One of my sons was guilty of a DUI at age 21 and a college student. My feelings about Solich's situation are very similar to those I expressed to him at the time:

1. The circumstances, reasons and one's personal background are irrelevant. DUI is an act of bad judgement, arrogance or stupdity- maybe all three.
2. He was very, very lucky to have been picked up before he ruined his life, someone else's or both. Insisted that he thank the arresting officer in court. Hope Frank does the same.
3. Be a man and pay the price. Three days in jail, thousands of dollars in expenses and a record are intended to make a lasting impression. Go through it to be reminded not to ever, ever do it again.
4. Participate in alcohol counseling, whether you think you "have a problem" or not. If you don't but just made a mistake, you'll get a preview of what alcohol out of control can do to lives and loved ones. If you do, a DUI is a great wake up call for the rest of your life.
5. Only part of the last point relates to both. I told my son I loved him, believed in his talents and future, and thought he had far too much going on to throw it away. He should pay the price, learn the lesson and move on. Now I don't love Frank Solich, but it is important that he find some reason to move on so he recovers. His death spiral benefits no one. OU made the best choice in an awful situation.

Two years later- so far, so good. Hope we can say the same about Solich in two years, whether or not he's at OU.
Athens is a drinking down and that's what people do there. Perhaps Solich had too much of a good time that nite. He isn't the biggest guy, so he may have a low tolerance level. Who else was with him? How could they let this happen. I know many OU students have been that trashed many times. Perhaps the team will rally around their coach this offseason and together they see better times in the future. Got to be hard on Solich who was a huge winner and now has a major rebuilding job at Ohio. He can't make this mistake again.

I think the school handled this incident well. They didn't over react, but they put him on notice. The honeymoon just ended. 4-7 3-5 MAC and a poor finish. Next year, Ohio needs to make improvement on the field. They have lots of vets back next year and fresh recruits ready to hit the field.
I heard through the grapevine that Solich when he got his 2006 calendar has already circled Halloween weekend. 03-wink
I think that bringing Ohio U. football back to respectability could drive someone to drink. 03-razz

Did Novak take up drinking in the late 90's? Sounds pretty familiar to our football situation! :D

Sounds very similar. Except Ohio occasionally won a game. :(

Just shows that it can be done though, with the right coach.
