This is the first time since the MAC has had two bowl bids that the two teams playing in the MACC will not got to a bowl(a third bid is highly unlikely).

This to me is unacceptbale. I know Toledo fans will boast they are more desirbale than NIU and Akron but I believe this is a bad precedent.

Someone gets screwed!!!!!
and so it begins...
I should have known better, though, never saw it coming. How a team that leads the league in attendance, has a strong road following, and wins the MAC West could be left at home is some major fuzzy math.

Here to hoping Toledo doesn't embarrass themselves like last year.
IT's official. Toledo to the GMAC.

<a href='http://www.gmacbowl.com/?SESS=7e44abc0e7ac41cd706e9c3c84652ebf&time=1133206103' target='_blank'>GMAC Website</a>
you seem to be mistaken. We didn't lead the MAC in attendance this year, and also we're not being left at home this year.

Here's to hoping we don't have to play the mighty Trojans that only NIU could've beat last year. Right now you are just west co-champs same as us up until and if you beat Akron, which you would be bowling too and Akron would be ineligible. So what's the problem?
Scen 1: When Akron wins, they will be going back to Detroit to the Motor City Bowl, and then then Toledo or NIU would go to the GMAC.

Scen 2: IF NIU wins, Akron is ineligible for a bowl and that would place NIU in the MCB and Toledo in the GMAC.

I believe this is the way it would work out.

Go Zips!

yeah, i don't care what you "MAC fans" think, but for one i'm rooting for Toledo to get destroyed in traditional Toledo bowl style 04-rock
I believe that the Motar City Bowl wants NIU because of the strong attendance we had at the Michigan game this year (7000-9000), which is more than a lot of MAC teams draw for home games.

Toledo will bring about 1000 fans to the GMAC Bowl, so I don't get why they are so hot to have them?!
I'm constructing a huge cross for all you NIU fans to bear.

All this venom seems to indicate that you're scared of the Zips and believe you're going to be shut out of a bowl game. You certainly wouldn't be as indignant about a bowl-ineligible 6-6 Akron team staying home.

If your team can take care of business, you'll have nothing to whine about. Right about now, I seem to be more confident about that than most NIU fans.

Don't give me all this, "someone gets screwed" crap.

If Akron loses, they aren't even bowl-eligible! Without knowing the outcome of the MACC, how can both teams be guaranteed post season play??

All this fake outcry about injustice to both MACC teams is nothing more than NIU fans scared they won't beat Akron and will sit home watching us play instead.

So with the GMAC inviting Toledo it is what it is...... Out of our control and always has been.

Is it wrong? Absolutely.... No way should Toledo have been the 1st team invited in the MAC. However, we still need Toledo to win and represent the MAC well. That is the only way more doors might someday be open to more MAC bids.

For all of us that took shots at Marshall going to CUSA this years situation is a perfect example of why NIU and other MAC teams should look at any opportunity for other conference openings that may occur. While it may not be Chrysts fault that GMAC invited Toledo it certainly is his fault that other doors have not been open. Last year it was Phillips and not Chryst that go us a third bowl.
Face it we have a incompetent individual at the helm of the MAC.

As for NIU, we just need to take care of business on thursday because as I stated no way should Toledo have been the first MAC team invited so is the fact that no way should NIU lose the game to Akron, of course that is why the game is played.

Toledo will again embarrass themselves and the MAC, just as they have in their last two bowl games.

For the record, since 1981(California Bowl inception) Toledo is 3-3 in bowl games, however, in the last two the lost by a combined 54 points!!!
The same thing happened last year when the GMAC took BG when they weren't even going to the MACC. If it weren't for all the extra bowl slots last year, Toledo would have sat at home if they'd lost to Miami in the championship game. Man you'd think that with the Huskies finally getting a shot at a MACC, against a beatable opponent, and an almost certain bowl game, that the NIU fans wouldn't have much to ***** about. I was wrong.

Well, you'll have to play the MACC this year.

Last year we lost our QB and Tailback in a hard fought MACC game against Miami.

Hilarious.

Maybe you can work a deal with Troy State.

LOL!
Do I wish we were 6-0 in those games; yes heck for that matter I just wish the last two would have been close, however I will take 3-3 and playing a total of six games in that time frame compared to your three from 1965 . Three more bowls and 16 less years. That being said congrats on beating Toledo this year.
I am a Miami fan - so take my opinion for what it is worth.

I don't the intention here is to screw NIU, as much as it is to sell tickets to the GMAC Bowl. In fact, I wonder if the scenario would be different if NIU wasn't a 13 point favorite to beat Akron. If the East Champ was 8-3 or 9-2- then I would imagine that the GMAC would invite one champ and the Motor City the other champ.

But since Akron is ineligble for a bowl with a loss- and with a 13 point spread-- my guess is that both bowl parties felt comfortable with Toledo to the GMAC.

Did you know that NIU was going to get the GMAC bid in 2003 if they had beaten Toledo? BG was still going to win the West (and were ranked). Miami was in the top 15 and had won the East. But NIU (with all the trophy wins) was going to get the GMAC bid- according to the Toledo Blade.
A scattering of thoughts here.....first off, you can't blame the GMAC for wanting to set its match-ups as quickly as possible to allow fans to set up travel........I would expect Toledo fans to travel well to Mobile since they've been stuck with the MCB in Detroit every other year they've gone bowling recently. I also think that they'll give a good account of themselves in that game......let's face it, C-USA certainly has no dominant teams, either this year.

Even if we had a third bowl this year, it certainly wouldn't have guaranteed that the loser of the MAC would have gone bowling. If Akron loses, who would the Toronto Bowl take? BG? WMU? Miami? or Akron?

As for the criticism of Rick CHryst, I think it's unwarranted.......he can be obsessed about getting the MAC a 3rd guaranteed bowl, but sponsors and "city fathers" have to want to put the game on.....hopefully that'll happen in Toronto next year vs. the Big Least.

Also, I think NIU will travel well to the MCB if they end up winning the MACC.........I guess the loser of the game can console themselves with the fact that they got to play in Ford Field already.

Didn't read through this whole thing, but here's the bottom line. If NIU wins, Akron isn't bowl eligible and, thusly, will only have screwed themselves.

Just win.
As it stands we beat Toledo with our back-up QB.

Given the fact that Toledo is so deep at RB(as stated numerous times by Toledo fans)I would think that losing your starting RB was not an issue.

Why go off on this tangent BobL?

The Rocket fans aren't making any excuses as far as missing personnel for this season's loss to the Huskies.

If anything NIU caught the Rockets in their worst performance at home since Syracuse visited UT in 1999 and for that NIU fans should be grateful. The D played Garrett Wolfe tough (minus one play when it was all but over) but for once the Toledo Offense failed.

Ask BGSU or anyone else to face Gradkowski in his entire career in the Glass Bowl if they would have benefitted if over half of Gradkowki's passes were also dropped by his receiving corps?

That was Grakdowski's only loss as a starting QB at home in his entire career!

Consider yourselves lucky to find yourselves in a position to win it all this Thursday.
