They are offering 3 options. 1) Just a ticket 2) Ticket and transportation (going home right after game) 3) Ticket, transportation and a hotel room Thur night.

Why aren't we offer anything like this?

B/C of the scenario I am not sure how many NIU fans will make the trip. We almost have a responsibility to go. In college football fan support and attendance are a crucial must. So step up and get to Detroit...no matter what!

P.S. I am in the process of trading somebody a day off (a big no-no) and if they accept...driving to Detroit and driving home to be at work on Friday morning. Whatever it takes!
I am surprised we arent offering a package that will be leaving Thursday night following the game. That option would be great for students and people who need to be back by Fri AM.

We are. 1) Just buy a ticket, 2) Reception & Game Ticket Only Package--$75, 3) Travel, Reception, & Game Ticket Package--$132. The hotel is optional, but very reasonably priced.
Akron to Detroit is only 3 hours.

DeKalb to Detroit is over 5.5 hours.
I just wish that they offered the Marriott Renaissance hotel for $114 without the travel package.
Man I missed this when I was just cruising our website.

Still, why is there no ticket plus transportation option? That seems the most feasible for a lot of our fans, especially students.

And they should not have class on Friday for anybody who attends 04-rock There is a way to get our students to travel!

Book Marriot yourself without other package parts if that is where you wish to be or some other hotel near to Ford Field & more reasonable like Comfort Inn. That is what I did for SJ, Ca.

Driving home after bball game is a really bad idea but the alternative requires two work vacation days for travel.

Riding a bus to and from is more than I could handle. I learned that from the BG sojourn two years ago.

I need saving some vacation time and expenses for other Xmas holiday travel plus bowl game.

Bummer but it's TV for me likely next thursday nite unless I can scam another arrangement. Hell -it may be cheaper and surely faster to fly into and outta Detroit for the day with a red eye .

Marriott Renaissance Center is $229. I even called them directly. More than double the package price.

Hotel nearby are just as expensive or seem to be quite a step down. Maybe someone familiar with the area could comment.

Last years SVFC left me drained. If this is anywhere near as exciting I'd never be able to drive the 5 hours after the game.

I'm not a bus person either.
Search either by hotel chain or other sites such as travelocity.

Holiday Inn Express downtown - current discout rate $123.00 ...claims to be within walking distance of FField.

Motels a few miles outside of Detoit also not a bad choice if simply looking for a place to crash after the game & celebrations.

Last year I paid $49 for a Wyndam in SJ nearer the airport than downtown which was IMO nicer than where fan package stayed.

If you had confidence that we would go to Detroit, or if you knew you could use $100 on Southwest later, you could have book an early Thursday/early 7 am-gets in at 7 am a couple of months ago. You can do it for the MCB for $152 now.
Akron is busing it students to/from the game (same day there and back) for free. Not a bad deal.

I think we'd get alot more students to the game if buses left for DeKalb immediately after the game.
Just booked comfort inn $69 with 2 queen beds and breakfast!

I posted this in the "E-mail to Jim Phillips" thread

A cursory check of the Federal regulations indicates that drivers are limited to 10 hours driving in one day. A bus company would have to provide 2 drivers for a DeKalb-Detroit (at least 12 hours)round trip. Detroit-Akron is only six hours round trip. That's my guess why this is overnighter (as was the Ann Arbor trip) and Akron is not.
