What a great article. Bill Curry's commentary during the game was very, very positive about NIU and Coach.
IN the CFN recap, they state something to the effect
"Nobody deserves this more than Coach Novak"
Congrats Coach and NIU. A class man and a class program.

I almost cried reading that article... Well, not really. But it is an emotional article that puts our program's history in perspective and gives Joe and NIU some big-time respect from an objective 3rd party source. I hope to see Curry announcing more NIU games!

Kidding aside, Curry is a great analyst and commentator during the Mike and Mike show on ESPN radio. He is very deep with his perspectives and I have always respected his opinions. For him to say these great things about the program and Joe is extra special!

Bill Curry just entered my pantheon of gods. With Jim Phillips and Joe Novak, he's in good company. Never did I think I would add a member of the media to my pantheon!
Bill Curry is awesome his interviews on ESPN radio are great. He has tons of stories covering many topics not just football but relating to life.
I will never forget his comments after the ALABAMA game, " Northern's win was no fluke they did it the old fashioned way they knocked ALAABAMA off the ball"
Isn't the A&APC already earmaked by GWilkins and named the "Carol and Joe Novak facility?
What a fantastic article!! I'm not the least bit surprised, however, as I thought for years that Curry was one of the best, if not THE best college football commentators around......

Great article- wouldn't expect such solid writing out of a guy who's an x and o's football lifer.
Two best parts:
After wrapping up a story of an encounter with an grizzled Huskie fan who doubles as an Alabama fan in his college football fan freetime:
"I wished him good luck and wondered whether anybody anywhere understood the passion of regular folks all over our country who never paint their faces or scream into cameras."
So true.
And then at the end...
"Coach Joe and His Iditarod Huskie Champions," or some such title would do for the movie. The obvious problem with the obvious title is that the Iditarod is considerably easier than the long, arduous road Novak and his pups took toward this moment."
