I'm getting sick and tired of the Huskies being on the short stick when it comes to discussing the MAC's bowl bids.

DEKALB — Smiling Motor City Bowl representatives Ken Hoffman and Turf Kauffman handed out lapel pins to several Northern Illinois coaches and players after Wednesday’s 42-7 win over Western Michigan.

But if the Huskies don’t follow up that victory with another one in the MAC championship game Dec. 1, then don’t expect Hoffman and Kauffman to follow up those pins with a Motor City Bowl bid.

“Most likely, with some things that still to play out,
Wow, this Kaufman guy is a real Marketing genius. Have yourself quoted in the local newspaper telling anyone that will listen that you don't want us in your bowl game. I'm sure comments like this will spur Huskie fans to support this bowl with their hard earned $$$. After we win next Thursday, and these folks are "forced" to invite us, remind me not to book a hotel room, not to buy any of their MCB apparel, and to eat a big breafast, lunch and dinner in Kalamazoo before and after the game.
Hey why doesn't someone bring up to him that in 2003 we had 10 wins and didn't get into a bowl.........since when do overall wins seem to matter.......by the way other then BG who has Toledo even beaten?? I mean why bothering having us in the MAC if they only really want either Bowling Green or Toledo in their bowl. This conference blows, in more ways then one.

2003 sucked for us, but it turned out that way because Miami was excellent at 12-1, and BG was also very good at 10-3. Had one of the two of them been 7-5, we likely would have gotten a bid.

Lindsay is reading into the situation, but doesn't have it quite right. The MCB doesn't want Akron, but will be stuck with them if they beat us in the MACC. Now, why the GMAC is enamored with Toledo, I have no idea. They must still think that UT has a crazy, wide-open passing game to interest the fickle southern Alabama fans. But if they'd rather not have one of the nation's best backs at their game, so be it.
Everyone say your novenas and pray for every possible 5-5 team to lose in the next few days. It is still possible for there to be too few non-MAC teams to fill the other slots. pLus, some of the eligible ones from non-BCS schools don't have 1) Our average attendence, and 2) Our Chicago market for TV. How about we leverage what we do have NOW (actually late Saturday afternoon) and get our own bid and stick the two MAC bowls with the also-rans. The MCB opponent is not going to be a Big 11 team anyway, and I doubt the GMUK is going to be any better.

We need a lot of help on the 5-5 teams losing, but I'm willing to pray for what I want..... 03-wink
Lets pray that we win the MAC and the MAC gets 4 Bowl bids.
NIU,Toledo,MIami and BG or Western Michigan
No doubt there is a prejudice against non-Ohio teams. The MAC really pushes for their own. I heard a strong rumor that the GMAC was ready to invite BG on Tuesday night had they beat Toledo. Since that didn't happen, they waited until our game on Wednesday to see if we lost. Had we lost, they would have invited BG then. Since that didn't happen, you would think the GMAC would invite us. I don't think that happened. So, after Akron beat Ohio, the GMAC still had it's Ohio hard-on, but then they looked at Akron's record and fan support. Both the MCB and GMAC lost their Toledo/BG hard-ons and will let the bowl scene play out next Thursday. I'm sure the worst thing for them would be an NIU win. Then we'd have to go to a bowl. But, if we lose (God forbid), it will be Toledo and Akron in the GMAC and MCB. Then, the GMAC gets its second favorite team, and the MCG gets what it gets.

The only way for a MAC team to get a bowl is to win the MACC. That is, unless you're one or both of those national powerhouses, Toledo and Boweling Green (typo intended).
Look... I am not a super MAC fan. It is a nice place to be for right now. The obvious Ohio-centric bias is not news. But we joined the MAC and I am not aware of anyone holding a gun to Groth's head.

Accept the situation as it exists and if a better alternative were to come along, evaluate it with the current bias in consideration. That is all we can do is deal with the facts as they exist. We are always a step child to the conference.
