Showing once again that in hoops the lesser conferences can sometimes beat the high majors (BTW look at what the Colonial Ath. Conf. is doing this year - 8Ws 1L with wins over Northwestern, Butler, Georgia, Wyoming, Princeton, UC-Irvine, etc. - the one loss was an OT loss to Wake).

John Bowler and frosh Gino Smith led EMU which got really good 3-point shooting from Danny Mc, Derek VanSolkema and big man, Knaub.

So far the MAC has wins vs. Va Tech and Cal.

Va. Tech and Cal - maybe someday we'll beat them in FB... 03-wink Ah, just dreaming.

Cal did play w/out 3 of their best players, but...
Congrats EMU, go MAC. 04-rock
Nice wins for EMU and Buffalo tonite. MAC gets some key wins to help lift the MAC rpi.

EMU has some nice talent. The coaching change might be what they needed. Great start for the MAC. Buffalo also had to fight a good Canisius tonite and got a w.

Phew just got back from UB/Canisuis and man am I drained. That was a huge game for our freshmen. We took a lead, then it was tight, then Can took the lead and then we got them in the end.

Attention MAC: Watch out for Gamble!
Yeah! Another Eagles win!!!!
Congrats! Add another team to this already loaded conference!
Interesting that we haven't really seen the big guns in our conference yet.

Ohio, Akron, KSU, UT and BSU have yet to play a game and they are my picks for the top tier of the MAC. (although the depth in the MAC might be deeper then a thought ala last year).

IF the conference has a really good this season I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I believe the MAC lost 9 of the 10 players on the 2-deep all-MAC team and had a number of other losses (e.g., Darryl Garrett, Scott Cutley, Marcus Crenshaw, etc.).

My take is that the newcomers are getting gooder (I like that term 03-wink ). Our UB poster says watch Gamble. I say watch Gino Smith and Carlos Medlock at EMU. Believe Bramos at Miami is a potential impact player. I've heard Ohio has some really fine newcomers. There are 'diaper dandies' all over this conference.
nice win

Gamble had quite a debut in his first game as a Bull. Plus he is local- Niagara Falls HS grad.

8 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a thundering dunk that brought the house down late in a tight game.

Jerry Sullivan of the Buff News had a column about him recently. Sounds like a great kid.

Gamble Story

It was an exciting, tight game in front of a sold-out crowd (6200). Plenty of fans from both sides. This makes 7 years in a row that UB-Canisius has been decided by 6 points or less.

Canisius has a good team this year. They returned everybody and have a couple transfers eligible that sat out last year. The local media seemed to think that they were the best Big 4 (UB, Canisius, Niagara, St. Bonnie) team this year.

FYI- That Niagara Falls HS team last year was amazing. Finished 3rd nationally in the USA Today rankings. NY Federation Cup champs. 2 kids with verbals to Syracuse (Harris, Flynn), 1 kid who may be the starting point guard for UConn this year (Garrison), and of course, UB's Greg Gamble.
I watched the EMU vs Cal game on my Direct TV. I thought both Eastern freshman looked really good.

Miami is very high on Bramos.

Gamble sounds like good fit for a rising Buffalo program. Great to hear about sell-outs, there will be many more to come as the season goes on, (the Rutgers game comes to mind). More games against better conferences can only help, why not a one & one with Drexel, another up and coming program, who just advanced to the pre-season NIT final four, and are scheduled to play in Madision Square Garden next week against Duke in this year's pre-season NIT, which also has UCLA, & Memphis in it, and played a great game in last seasons NIT at Buffalo. I'am sure with some effort, Phil Martellie's St. Josephs program could be scheduled, and would play an away game at Buffalo. I know for a fact that Temple coach John Chaney has specifically mentioned that he looks forward to playing at Buffalo, as well as a couple of other MAC programs from Ohio. Again congratulations.
Way to go, Eagles. 04-rock

The MAC OOC resume is off to a good start. We need all of these wins we can get for Selection Sunday.
Good job Eagles!

Remember several years ago when Ball St. beat Kansas and someone else in the Maui Invitational? That was sweet for the MAC.
This is a fun time of year for MAC basketball because the conference schedule has yet to begin. It is the time where we are fans of the entire MAC Conference. We want all our fellow schools to win in order to enhance the prestige of the mighty MAC.

I know I would have lost my shirt on last nights game. I expected to see (in person) our Womens teams win by 30 and the Men's team lose by 25. Instead I saw the Women's team win by just 9 and the Men's team win by 2 against PAC 10 California!!

I saw Medlock mature greatly from one half to the next and Gino Smith? WOW! He is a gamer!

I have no ability to speak today, my voice is shot!!

I have gone from being ANGRY  after the football disaster last Saturday to surprised elation last night!

Go EMU!
I just saw that EMU beat Cal and I must say I am impressed. I added an article on VanDelaySports.com about potential MAC "statement" games this year that are against "bigtime" conferences. Right now this win and the BG win over Virginia Tech give us a lot of hope as fans of the MAC. Nobody is picking EMU and BGSU at the top of the Conference; for them to beat "bigtime" conference schools is HUGE for the MAC.
