Was it me or did every kick return by toledo almost go all the way. Our special teams are poor.
Our special teams may have been not to par last night, but i think thats an unfair judgement. They only really got to the 40 yard line most of the time, thats 60 yards from all the way. And with the wind and cold air last night, as well as the snow, you couldnt expect our punting and kicking to be all that great. Give em some slack, they got the job done.
The fact that Nendick's kickoffs had no distance on them didn't help the cause, it was really a bad night for the kicker and the coverage men on the kickoffs (and punts for that matter).
Upon further review, the officials did a poor job last night. I dont know if there were a tons of bad calls, but in terms of controlling the game, they had no control. Really the only blatant blunder was the spotting of the that Toledo punt where they put the ball and the 20 and it looked like it went out of bounds 15 yards upfield.

That was the only call I thought was iffy.

I think the Refs did a wonderful job.

You were at the games so you couldn't see some of the things that we saw.

1 pass interference call was brutal, if anything they should have called it on Toledo.
On the TD screen Hutton clearly got held.

There are some others but those were the worst 2.

G-force on that long return by Toledo that got called back, was there a real penalty on that one, I think they called 2 penalities on that one, was it obvious on the replays because I couldnt see it.

They never showed the holding call, but they did show the block in the back, and that was not ovbious at all.

Yes, we love the refs. 03-wink

our special teams was the weak part of the game yesterday. We can not give WMU great field position after great field position every drive next Wednesday. They will take advantage of it, guranteed. The weather did have something to do with Nendick's kicks, but Toledo had to kick too. We got some good field position at times, but it seemed like after EVERY kickoff, they were at least at their own 40.
I totally agree with comments here. The special teams play was quite poor in my opinion. The players did not seem with it to either kick the ball deep or to fight through blocks and make the tackle.

They need to fix that or WMU is going to exploit that weakness.
