Full Version: UT vs BG

We talked about the likelihood of UT & BG going at each other in back to back weeks in the the spring and now that is a strong possibility. If UT beats BG in season final and Miami beats Ohio the rematch will be on.

ESPN will be broadcating a rematch in the MCC of the exact same game played the previous week. I don't know if this has ever happen in college FB, in the NFL it is not unusual.

The MAC office should force UT and BG to move their game on future schedules.
Some folks will howl about how this game should always be the last one of the regular season, but it hasn't always been so.

In fact, it's only held that spot since the 2000 season. In fact, we never played them later than Halloween in the 90s:

Oct. 2, 1999
Oct. 17, 1998
Oct. 27, 1997
Oct. 5, 1996
Oct. 21, 1995
Oct. 15, 1994
Oct. 2, 1993
Oct. 17, 1992
Oct. 19, 1991
Oct. 13, 1990

In fact, before 2000, you have to turn The Way Back Machine to 1986 and Moe Ankey's first season to find the BG-UT tilt as the season ender.

Why? Don't you ever expect your Huskies to make it to the MACC?

You beat me to this! This is a relatively new phenom and never made a difference until this season when BG was moved back to the East.

One time where two teams squared off....again shortly after playing one another was the 1996 NC game. Florida State beat Florida in the last game of the year.....then Florida beat Auburn in the SEC championship.......then Florida beat FSU in the NC game. Not exactly the same...but pretty close.

Also, I believe FSU and UM played twice last year.

Way to have faith in your team! 03-puke
Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand If Toledo beats BG and the Zips mop up Kents pathetic season, then it would be a UT/Akron MACC. At least that is how I have understood things to this point.

Hadn't really thought of that. Come to think of it, if moving the UT-BG game earlier in the season guarantees us a spot in the MACC game on an annual basis, I think we should make the move starting with the 2006 schedule! 03-wink
I for one want to see NIU/BGSU for the MACC, nothing else

I'm not real sure how the NIU/UT game comes into play in the East, praticularly in Scenario 1. Please explain.

The tie-breaker involves the record of your cross-divisional opponents. Since Toledo played BG and Akron played NIU, that would be a factor.
