Huskies hope to follow Sox's example

Six weeks ago, Northern Illinois coach Joe Novak was asked how long it had been since the Huskies had won at Toledo. "Almost as long as it's been since the White Sox won the World Series," he replied.
Actually, NIU won there in 1972, its only victory in 17 tries at Toledo. But since the Sox ended their 88-year drought, maybe the Huskies could break their long drought Wednesday night in the key Mid-American Conference game Novak and his players have pointed toward all season.
It won't be easy. Toledo leads the series 26-6 and has won the last 11 times. Furthermore, NIU tailback Garrett Wolfe is questionable because of a sprained knee, and freshman quarterback Dan Nicholson will make his first start in place of Phil Horvath, who broke his left arm in a 31-28 victory Nov. 5 at Central Michigan.
Nicholson relieved and passed for 320 yards and two touchdowns that day, but Novak said NIU needs to rush better than the 6 yards it netted against Central Michigan.
Tailback A.J. Harris' sore shoulder could keep him out of Wednesday's game. If neither he nor Wolfe can play, Adrian Davis will get the call.
