While other MAC programs would kill to get a Virginia Tech to play on their home field, Ohio decides to drop the home game, Go figure..
Don't even get me started on that one...   03-banghead 03-banghead 03-banghead
I would love to see the Herd on that schedule. It would make sense for both programs to continue playing each other
:)
No VA Tech on there, but at least a schedule where they could actually go 7-4 or better. Start putting a few seasons of winning records together, then catch the eye of a few recruits, then throw in VA Tech in the future.

People are going nuts on BobcatAttack over the "dumbed down" schedule. I say build a winner FIRST then schedule the big-dogs!
So Ohio had 2 games left with Va Tech- one home and one away. And they cancelled the HOME game. As I said two weeks ago...it was the dumbest decision in the history of college football (and that's when I thought they were cancelling both games).

A complete disregard for your season ticket holders. So Ohio fans would you rather see Ohio has La Lafayette and win or Va Tech and lose. And these same Ohio people think they need to leave the MAC.

Is Ohio going to play all away games when they join the Big East?
Hope you enjoy your trip down to Cajun Country next season. The flight back won't be so fun for y'all though.

Just like we've done for the last 30 years...that's worked well.
Ohio traded the VT game for a game at Missouri. The Bobcats get a better shot at winning a game and they are going to make $750,000 by going to Columbia. Financially it didn't make sense to have VT come to Athens and destroy the Bobcats. Now with Brad Smith gone an improving Bobcats squad could have a chance at knocking off a Big 12 team.

Also, I'm one of the few who likes the schedule at bobcatattack. I'm not one of those guys who wants to see a schedule full of only BCS teams for the next few years.

You have got to be kidding yourself. You will never ever get to see Virginia Tech play football at Ohio. Never.
I agree. VT will never come to Athens again. Never. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Are you serious with this question? Uh...duh...yeah I'd rather see us lose to Virginia Tech than see us beat UL-L! NOT!!!!

Who would rather see his team lose, even if it's against a "big name" program?!!

Our AD, in conjunction with our head football coach, made the decisions he thought would most benefit our program. That's all that matters. Why would we want to be a sacrificial lamb to the BCS like Ball State was this year? How ridiculous.
Would you rather have a bowl game or get beat 45-10. We can only seat 25,000 so it doesn't make a difference. We got 25,000 for Pitt and 21,000 for Toledo. We got almost 17,000 for Kent State. Not much difference. I'd take the wins and some money. Lets face it fans Ohio has gotten enough exposure, now we need a schedule that gets us a winning season. Toledo and Miami should play those kind of games because their programs are farther along. Ohio is just starting to become a respectable D-A program. We need to get where Akron is right now 6-5,7-5 or 7-4 then take the step up in 2007 where Toledo and Miami are 8-3, 9-2 level and a MAC title shot. We were 1-10 in 03 4-7 in 04 ? in 05 and.....................If takes time. Look at how long NIU has stayed at #2 in the west. The final step is the hardest. Toledo and Miami are the bar that everybody is trying to meet.
So what are you Ohio fans all doing with all the money you are getting.... oh wait- you aren't getting any of it. You guys sound like Indians fans now when they try to justify Larry Dolan's spending habits.

So if the Big 10 offered Ohio admission- you would turn it down because you would rather beat the La La's of the world then lose to Big 10 teams.

The reality is though the Lafayette series is not at issue.

You didn't dump the Va Tech series, you dumped the home game!

You just replaced the Va Tech home game with a Missouri away game. And that helps Ohio fans (or MAC fans) how?
ok what don't you get about this? let me outline it for you...

- OU drops a home game vs. VA Tech (a home game at OU that would be 24,000 in attendance) in favor of a road game at Missouri (a stadium of 68,349); we're talking a payout to OU of $500,000...how much would we get with VA Tech coming to Athens? 24,000 people times $12.00 per person...$288,000 before expenses

- OU drops a home game that would be an almost-certain loss to VA Tech in favor of a game at Mizzou that is arguably a winnable game for OU

- that means a win by the MAC over a BCS league/team as opposed to being throttled again by VA Tech

Does it make more sense for you now? It's a done deal. get over it.
What are we going to get? Well if things go according to the plan, a better football team.

The renovation of Peden Stadium towers has been a huge success and along with this money it might finally help start plans for an indoor facility and give the AD more money to give to student/athletes so they can stay in Athens over the summer and participate in workouts/training sessions. Once we can get the program in the right direction we the fans will see the rewards. It all starts with the right facilities and being able to bring in the right student athletes.
Very true, MFRONE. Good points.

I am wondering one thing, though. Since 2006 is when teams can start having 12 games, I wonder if we will end up scheduling another OOC game, say on Sept. 9 at home. I hope we do.
The last two years shows us nobody in the MAC should be angling for road BCS games because they are more winnable. I agree with the move, but this is why... The reality is if OU didn't back out of the game VA Tech would have bought it out eventually anyway. They would not have stepped foot in Peden. Now OU picks up a good game at Missouri rather than being stuck with a home game against VCU or a road game against another power to fill a schedule, which is what would have been left if they waited until June to do this.
