2005-06 PRESEASON MID-MAJOR ALL AMERICA TEAM

that's all very well and good, but I'm a team-oriented guy. I don't get into the individual awards because I'm not sure that in a team sport there truly is such a thing as an individual award. Anyway, I looked at the CollegeInsider.com Web site, and I found the Mid-Major Top 25 poll to be more interesting than the All-America awards.

Ohio #10
Akron #18
Ball State #23
Others mentioned: Kent State, Western Michigan, Miami, Northern Illinois, Toledo, Buffalo.

Might have been easier to mention the teams that WEREN'T listed!

Anyway, I'm thinking this means we're shaping up for one heck of a men's basketball season in the MAC! Can't wait to get it all started!
Idbihi is a Junior and has been a solid player his first two years. He is 6-10 and that gets attention. Congrats UB on getting the MAC some publicity. If this kids makes that stupid shot the Witherspoon drew up, this guy would be getting a lot more publicity this year. He's still a great player in this conference. UB was just a tip in from an automatic bid last year and Idbihi was a big reason they were their. Interesting to see how UB does this year. They last Battle and Bortz, but Cage ,Jordan, and Idbihi all are back. UB isn't down at all folks, its just that Ohio, Akron, and Kent State are really loaded this year. MAC east will have an rpi like a major conference. 5 teams in top 75 rpi this year. Toledo, WMU and Ball State are top 100 too. NIU will be good too. MAC is powerfull this year. I think we put up numbers like the MVC did in recent years or the A-10 a couple years ago.

Top 30 Ohio
Top 40 Akron
top 50 Kent State
top 60 Buffalo, Miami,Toledo
top 80 Ball State
top 100 WMU, NIU

6 post season teams for MAC this season perhaps 7.

Were gonna surprise some big name team OOC.

Wait a minute, where's BG on your list??? 03-wink 04-drinky

On a more serious note, BG does remind me of last year's Ohio team. Freshman laden and a great recruiting class. Of course, I'm not saying anything will come of it, but it wouldn't surprise me if they finished fourth in the east, maybe third. We got an All-American JUCO transfer in Samarco, Steve Wright is back, albeit presently nursing a broken ankle, a freshman stud from Serbia (?) who averaged 35 points per game on his team last year (not sure if that will equate to anything), and apparently a few other very, very good freshmen. Not to mention Matt Lefeld, our 6-11 junior forward has supposedly improved vastly.
You can never really count out a Dakich team......well, at least not assume a last place finish. Nevertheless, this team's development will be fun to witness. The East will dominate for years to come.
Sorry for the rambling. Probably things you don't care to hear, but I felt somebody needed to represent the Falcons in this discussion. 03-razz
You better hope BG has some surprises, because you're coming back to the East in a very tough year. On a paper, two teams are could win it all, two more can surprise, and the last one is always in until the end, and can certainly come out of no where. I don't know where BG will fall on this scale.

Welcome back.

The MAC needs to do in bball what it couldn't do in football this year; win the OOC games! If that doesn't happen often, we won't look any better than we have in the past. In the conference games, we'll just beat each other up, so we have to show the country we are a very good bball conference. There are a lot off attractive OOC games this year, that would be great if we could win most of those, especially since most are road/neutral games.

Go MAC!

Bah, we haven't seemed to have much of a problem against Kent the past few seasons, at least not in Kent. 03-wink
