NIU must win out to go bowling

Northern Illinois hasn’t sent teams to postseason bowls in back-to-back seasons since 1963, and that came during its small-college era.
If this NIU edition intends to become the school’s first Division I-A team to go to bowls in back-to-back years, then its plan doesn’t get much simpler than this:
•Win today (noon, no TV) at MAC West co-leader Central Michigan.
•Win Nov. 16 at MAC West co-leader Toledo.
•Win the Nov. 23 regular-season finale against Western Michigan to wrap up the West Division title.
•Win the Dec. 1 MAC title game in Detroit against the East Division champion.
That’s 4 victories in four weeks against four teams with winning records.
Anything less and the Huskies can plan to spend their December on final exams and holiday shopping.
