How reliable do you think autographed stuff is on ebay?

Some of it not so much, but some of it is pretty legit. Look at the seller and the feedback.
as reliable as alums phantom letter from the AD about silverettes.
Seriously, I wouldn't trust it. Then again, I have a hard time trusting autographs from a shop since I didn't get them. I have an autographed Puck from savard that was from a charity auction and has a letter from the Hawks on their letterhead, so I trust that. I have a Sweater autographed by many guys from the 90's I trust that because either I got them myself or a freind got them for me at an event with the players.
a friend of mine buys and sells some autographs on ebay so i know some things about it. basically people are only going to forge stuff that makes them big money. any huskie stuff i would be pretty confident it's real. i wouldnt buy any white sox stuff right now. when a player or team is hot thats when ebay gets flooded with forgeries. the biggest thing is look at the persons feedback and other auctions. i wouldnt buy any autographs from someone with less than a couple hundred feedback. also look at their other auctions they have on at the time, if its all superstars id be careful.

that is interesting...I would think the opposite. Why risk being found out with one big name thing, why not just have a bunch of little forgeries that there aren't really that much info on...

Well that is how i would do it...

I would be leary of any autographed stuff, ebay or not.

I think it was Sports Illustrated who did a story several years back that over 30% of all autographed merchandise is counterfeit. Often the seller has no clue.

My friend actually bought an auto jersey/ball with all the UNC basketball players auto on it from this year. Complete with pics of them signing and a Certificate from somewhere....He got it for around $350....

Pretty sweet looking, and he got it before the season so it had have gone way up in value. I think if he is just a collector looking to hang it somehwere and no one really knows if its legit, it doesn't really matter. But if you want to hold/sell it, then i'd be very careful of what I do.

But then it goes without saying, always be careful of big $$$ items no matter what.
