Head coach Rob Judson and Northern Illinois have landed Richards high school star Cody Yelder. Yelder, who saw his stock soar this summer, ranks as one of the top Class of 2006 point guard prospects in the state of Illinois.

Yelder, a 6-1 point guard, spent the month of July starring on the AAU circuit with Tobias Walker's Illinois Bobcats. Yelder is both strong and athletic. He is a tireless performer on both ends of floor who excels both as a scorer, and as a leader. He also rates as one of the top rebounding guards in the state.

Yelder, who verballed this morning, had a great visit to the NIU campus last weekend for Homecoming and Midnight Madness. He really bonded with the current players at NIU, and really likes Coach Judson, and assistant coach Donald Whiteside.

Yelder was one of the top performers last month at the ChicagoHoops.com Class of 2006 Top Prospects Showcase.

Top 30 alum...
Fwiw,
I am sure he's even better than #30 after some of his play recently. The list above is dated from early May. I could see him move up a good 5-10 spots if the list were to be made today.
#7 point guard in the state ranked #30.
I thought he got his point guard last year? This is still not a top 300 player in the nation, so I will reserve my large celebration for later.
How many #%&#@*& point guards does he need? Can we please recruit some size?

Not true at all. Sept 27th list has him falling to 34.

ISU, WMU, and Toledo have the 9, 14, & 17 recruits. I do not put 100%in these rankings, but the gap is pretty big. Guys in the 30s are usually EIU or WIU material.
This is Richards High School in Bozeman, Montana, right? 03-wink

Just to add some more fuel to this fire. I am glad we locked him in before Stony Brook and UWGB did. UGH!!!!!
Hopefully he is an overlooked gem!
Clearly not a sought after recruit.
Chemistrywise he may be a great fit.

Did I miss something? We had a midnight madness?

Someone on here said they thought there was a practice open to the public last Saturday.

Rob Judson is successful in recruiting yet another point guard. So long as this kid has multi-dimensional skills, then I guess Judson deserves a pat on the back. After all, he DID beat out powerhouse programs Stony Brook and University Wisconsin - Green Bay.

Chemistry wise? What, to mix with the low grade recruits already on the roster and those who haven't bolted the program because they could no longer stand the Reverand Judson?!?!

The "chemistry" on this team is what needs blowing up, not preserving.

I can't wait to see your response to the other b-ball recruiting thread.

Actually, the Chemistry is the one thing I would have given them props for. Despite their deficiencies this team does fight till the end. They seem to have each others back, even if they don't pass well or play defense.

" Illinois Prep Bulls-eye regards Yelder as one of the most underrated players in the 2006 class out of Illinois."

Right now, with how we play this is as good as we can hope for. I'm realy excited about this kid, a combo guard, something we are going to need when sims and AM go.

Judson deserves some credit I guess. Hopefully this kid flashes some great talent playing under our new head coach in 2006-07.

Anybody got a subscription to Chicagohoops.com. there is another story (premium access) out there about landing a big man. I just wondered if it's the 6'7" guy from Missouri mentioned here, or one of the other two.
