I had to listen to the game over the internet in Central Ohio. One problem I had with the game was that according to Baker and Crew, Shatone Powers was called for two unsportsmanlike panalties for "mouthing off". This is very disappointing from someone who should be a senior leader.

If this is true, can someone please wash his mouth out with soap so he stops this. If I were coach Novak I would be furious and I would consider sitting him down for half or more of the next game.
"Mouthing off" can also be taunting. You don't always have to swear these days to draw that kind of penalty. It seems that there is a pretty fine line to tread at times and that it can change from week to week depending on an officials temperment to words and tone of voice, etc.

I sincerely hope that Powers didn't use profanity. There is no place for that kind of action in NCAA events.

Actually they were wrong.

1 mouthing off penalty was more of a slap move...I think the other one either went to phil Horvath, who taunted after a TD pass...or to shaton for tossing the ball after the td and it hit an EMU eagle.

Either way i don't think either were 'mouthing' off.
On the one willy mentioned, they mentioned shatone tossing the ball; but went back and saw that horvath was the one trash talking on replays.

I thought it was on Horvath as well. People around me were like "No!! A penalty? Better not be offense pass interference!" And I said "no it's on Horvath.. he went and got in the EMU players face after the TD"

However, the refs called it on Shatone. I did not see him flip the ball in the air but I clearly saw Horvath get in the EMU guys' face.

I noticed a scuffle after Horvath's helmet flew off and I think the EMU players may have been trying to get in a few cheap shots with Horvath laying helmet-less in the pile. Horvath seemed particularly fired up after the play. I don't think he appreciated whatever it was that happened.

Haha i can't wait to watch a replay of the game. Did u notice after they ripped phils helmet off he was still trying to put his mouth piece in his face mask that wasn't there. He just kept hitting himself in the forehead...He was a bit out of it. And i did notice that some EMU guys were trying the ol hand to the face on a man without a helmet. But doug free and gang were not having any of it, they were in the pile almost instantly.
Earlier in the game thru much of first half, I thought some fight was likely to eventually break out or a slew of unsportsmanship penalties on both playerts were gonna be called. Nothing terribly serious but there was alot of pushing/shoving/wrestling/talking ongoing after plays ended.

Much of it simmmered down until much later. Hey if the players can push envelopes, why cant fans be verbally abusive & diss respectful to opposing players
Thanks for the comments. Makes me feel better about Shatone.
#36 the SS from EMU was a real jerk. He caused a lot of the problems. Horvath got in his face after the TD pass. Somebody should have decked him..during play of course and do it legitimately. It was done a lot back in the day as Buffone would say.

Yep - I think he was in on the QB sneak that Phil had his head taken off on. Phil came up jawing and a couple OLinemen were shoving people. They were not happy about something in that pile, and it was on that drive that Shatone caught the TD - he tossed the ball to #36 after making the catch, and that was the Unsportsmanlike call.

I'm pretty sure that was the only Unsportsmanlike call. There was a personal foul for Doug Free hitting a guy around a pile a second or two late.
