Exactly.
I say good riddance. As much as everyone hated his predecessor, Bubba's resume is nothing short of shameful in Muncie. He never wanted to be here and it showed. His claim to fame is permanent lights at the football stadium and a horribly botched marketing plan. Wow, how impressive...
Also, according to the boys at the student paper (I haven't done the research do personally back this up), BSU was averaging 3-4 MAC championships per year under Seger and just one under Bubba.
Seger was no picnic, but Bubba was a farse. I've followed BSU sports from the inside for several years, and the morale in the athletic department has been at an all-time low the past couple of years. The coaches can't stand Bubba - to a point of actually saying they'd take Seger back in a heartbeat.
Gora would have fired the guy had he not left for Tulsa, so he's very fortunate in that regard. Hopefully Dave Land (cough, cough, compliance director) is shown the door very soon.
They need to find someone who is young and aggressive and ready to institute some serious change. Morale is low, nobody wants change, and the programs are hurting. I think Gora will make the riht hire.

I guess a conference USA school would be impressed with his handling of "bookgate".

I'm curious, who gets credit for the stadium renovation project?
I guess "being on the inside" has not provided the information to you the Stadium Renovation Fund has exceeded it's goal of $12 million dollars...who should get that credit?
You might consider adding the Stadium Renovation Fund to his "claim to fame" as you put it. That project went A LOT farther in his short period of time in Muncie than it did with Andi Seger in charge.
I'd also like to know what coaches "can't stand" Bubba Cunningham. Could it be some of the coaches who possibly had budgets trimmed? Could they possibly dislike the fact Bubba Cunningham made football a priority at Ball State unlike Andi Seger?
As far as the marketing aspect goes...have you heard of "THE NEST" at basketball games? Being "on the inside" may not have made you aware it won national awards this year and got the students involved at Worthen Arena. The athletic department chose to target a certain group of fans and the students were it.
I guess being "on the inside" makes it OK to take advantage of Bubba's hospitality and cooperation extended to a fledgling BSU sports website, evidenced by giving its moderators press credentials and court-side basketball seating. Then stab him in the back, under the protective cocoon of anonymity on this message board, when he announces his resignation.
I guess "positive manner" doesn't mean much anymore...I think you know what I mean by that comment.

The Auburn and Iowa games were contracts signed before he took over. The Auburn game was moved twice by Cunnningham after he scored the 2-for-1 with Boston College, which ended this year, thus making it part of this year's schedule. After that move and the addition of Boston College, he tried to replace Iowa on the schedule this year, but apparently the team he got to replace Ball State was not to Iowa's satisfaction.
He's been able to score us home games with Boston College and Indiana (I don't know if he had a hand in the Missouri contract or not, but I don't think so), and I think Fanatic4BSU took care of explaining the rest.

Why I'm bothering to respond is beyond me, but there are no secrets here. It's pretty obvious that only one of three people could be making this post.
To answer your questions...
Jerry Peirson is mostly responsible for the fundraising. Besides, the stadium project was going to happen with or w/o Bubba because it has been planned for years.
Chris Taylor is SOLELY responsible for the Nest. He is a phenominal talent, dedicated servant, and huge asset for Ball State.
Tim Buckley was mostly responsible for initiating the IU contract due to his luck with the basketball contracts with IU. My understanding is that he and Brady worked together on that package. I'm not blaming Bubba for the football schedules at all. That was he and Brady's dumb luck...stepping into a meat grinder like that. However, supposedly Bubba made all kinds of promises regarding the COSIDA tourney that he didn't keep.
And, no, not one of the coaches or insiders (which is pretty much the whole athletic department) that I heard from had his/ her budget trimmed. It's not like I'm talking to track or swimming cocahes here.
As for press passes, Joe Hernandez, Brad Caudill, and Chris Taylor are SOLELY responsible for that - all three have been very good to us the past year or so. We have been very good to them in return.
There's a lot more to the story that the average fan, swayed by Bubba's charm, has no clue about. Hang around the athletic department for a day or so and you'll see the lack of leadership and morale problem. It's been going on for at least two years. People are relieved that a change is coming. I'm personally looking forward to a new era of BSU sports.
Classic overreaction. I'm entitled to my opinion, which is based on results, observation, and countless private discussions with coaches, staffers, and student athletes. Likewise, you're entitled to your opinion, which you've stated here. You would argue with me no matter what position I took and no matter how factual it was.

Dear "Only One of Three" -- or should I say Moe, Larry or Curly:
Jerry Peirson is mostly responsible for fundraising -- NOT!
Chris Taylor is solely responsible for the NEST? Does the Bradster know about this?
And, lastly, "hang around the athletic department for a day or so"...
I'd say you need to get a job and a life. That's just creepy!
I'll give you this...you're not the average BSU fan. Thank heaven, you little twit.

Wow. Some interesting conversation here...

I happened to do my morning Google.com search this morning and came across a couple of articles regarding Ball State football. One of them I have linked below...
<a href='http://www.fortwayne.com/mld/journalgazette/sports/13190588.htm' target='_blank'>Donations Not Problem at Ball State</a>
When I got to the bottom of the article I couldn't help but think of what had been said in this thread. I believe the words you used were "horribly botched marketing plan".
It's interesting to read Associate AD Joe Hernandez say since the Nelligan's Marketing deal was made revenue has TRIPLED. That doesn't sound like a "horribly botched marketing plan" to me.
But what do I know, I'm just an average fan.
