was it just me or did they actually sound good tonight....lot better than usual atleast....especially during tv timeouts
Couldn't agree more, the band had some juice tonight. I think they have improved big time over last year. The timing of their songs has also been very good this year.

My favorite was the one trombone player who had the instrument painted red with black stripes!!! 04-rock
Everything was great about the ESPN broadcast except one thing, the audio. They really need to pick up the crowd/band more, it adds alot to the telecast.

By leaps and bounds, Bender and Curry are the best tandem to ever do a huskie game nationally. They really paid some respect to the MAC, even though at times this was a horribly played game.
Agreed but something still needs to be done about the halftime show. No offense to any band members but it literally puts me to sleep!
Give us time... we are going to be working on a Queen show for homecoming.... we did this latin/jazz show again because this is a big tool for our recuiting, which will be on our CD and DVD this season. Dont worry it will get better.. then it is going to be a Elvis Show, and then the band Chicago show
welcom jfoley, glad to hear the band is improving, and from the tone of your post, it sounds like there's some enthusiasm surrounding the band.

The one thing I liked about the band today was how much they played outside the stadium before the game. They were all over the place.
The band sounds great, I'm making it a point to get in the stadium early so I can get a seat near the band. I feel like I feed off their energy.
I love the sound they are putting out this year. Marching is good, Silverettes are still hot (some anyway), and the Guard keeps on getting better (and finally stopped wearing those stupid VCB shirts).
Unfortunately I do not like the Queen or Elvis medley. We need music to get people pumped. Those medleys don't accomplish that for me. Maybe hearing the band play it will help. Bang up job so far though. Boo may earn my respect yet. As long as he never plays Smooth again. 03-puke

The audio in broadcasts of our games always sucks, even on Comcast. Either it is difficult to pick up crowd noise at Huskie Stadium, or they are not setting their mikes up properly. I see that this year there is a crowd mike at midfield over the west stands. That is NOT where you want to place a crowd mike, unless you want to hear the snoring and teeth clicking. They need their mikes on the east side.

P.S. Kudos to the band for another fine performance! 04-bow

Bill Curry is one of the most esteemed gentleman in college football. It was hugely impressive to have him doing the call for the NIU game. He had lots of good things to say about our program too.
I understand the band is about 40 members larger than last season. It can be heard, for sure. There were a few moments when they really blew hard and you could feel the stregth of the music. That was exciting. Just imagine if the band grew by another 40 next year...

I really enjoyed the band marching around the stadium before the game to entertain the tailgaters. That was excellent. Keep up the good work!

Welcome to the board!

Please do us a favor and let everyone on the band know about this board. The more the merrier.

All of the alumni on this board truly appreciate all the hard work the band members put into what they do. Having a strong, loud, visible band is a huge asset to the university.

I hope you mean the band Queen and not the rocky horror queen 03-wink

I love Bill Curry's work on ESPN. Too bad my DVR crashed 2 days ago :crying: :crying: I was planning on recording the game. :(
Many of us west side old farts commented on how much better the band sounded and looked. Keep it up!!! The band is an important part of the program.

I still can't get over that Bill Curry was in DeKalb doing a NIU football game. The man is a legend and about as respected a voice in college football as they come.

"We Will Rock You" and "We are the Champions" are good, but when they are played in a medley with "Bicycle" & "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" (among others) they lose a bit of their power. jfoley2003 Are you a trumpet player? Do y'all still do the "trumpet hat"? And (for any general band members) when do we get a rail job? I loves the rail jobs. oh well.

Yeah I thought there had to be some mistake when I saw who was doing the game.

Bender also used to do Chicago Bears games and also SEC games on CBS, he has a classic announcing voice.

I hope those two get to do the Toledo/NIU game, although I definitely won't be home to listen to it, I will be in the Glass Bowl. I cant wait for November, Im sick and tired of seeing CMU and EMU ahead of the Huskies in the standings.
Not by my choice... we did cowboy hats with a red feather instead of the baseball. me being a third year member, i did argue about this and no one seemed to care because the younger ones wanted something different. We tried to do a rail job last night but the new director said it is not safe because they are now handicap people sitting where the rail job would take place. i believe we are going to have a talk about this tomorrow at rehearsal. This director said he was going to try to keep our traditions, but this is a tradition that gets the fan excited too.
