If we lose to Miami of Ohio tomorrow night will the season go down the toilet? I am less confident at any time in the last 3 years that we can beat anybody this year with our defense. Playing young kids is great but does it mean "Wait 'till next year"?
Everybody knows our defense sucks and I don't expect it to be any better against Miami of Ohio no matter who Joe plays on D.
Hey, we havn't lost at home yet this year 03-razz
We will NOT lose tomorrow night...

but to answer your question... yes if we lose, it's time to build towards next season.

Our defense definitely has some improving to do. I am hoping we can take the next two home games, and get it together before we hit the road again. Although the Akron game was bad, the 'D' did show signs of light putting a '0' up on the board in 4Q after giving up 42 points in three quarters. I think a bigger problem than the 'D' last game was the ineffectiveness of the running game. Had we run the ball better, consumed some clock, Akron wouldn't have had time to put five consecutive scores on the board in the first half after we went up 14-0.

We have some Freshmen at linebacker who should be making strides on the learning curve. Most importantly, we need turnovers on defense. Hopefully these things start coming soon. In addition, we need to run for over 200 yards (not the 50 yards we had at Akron)...and burn up some clock which means a few 12 play 80 yards drives. The problem with scoring fast is it puts the defense back on the field and we don't get a chance to wear down the opposition's defense.

Worst case scenario, let's say we lose tomorrow night. As bad as it is, we still control our own destiny with Toledo if they get another conference loss. BG is always a tough game, and Toledo has lost at Ball State 2 and 4 years ago. If we lose tomorrow night, beat Toledo, and Toledo loses to BG or BSU, we still go to the MACC.

Even if we lose tomorrow, we win out the west, we go to the MACC. Doesn't matter if Toledo loses another game. However, a loss COULD keep us out of a bowl game because only the the MACC champ is guaranteed a spot. As we all know, the Ohio bias could hurt us again this year so the second spot is not definate.
RObert.....you are wrong in your thinking

If we lose tomorrow and "win out the west" we still have two conference losses....if Toledo only loses to us they have one...they go to Detroit and our 7-4 (if that) record gets us nothing but bragging rights over Ball State.(if that)

Conference record, not division record, determines who goes to the MACC. There was a time where it was division record, but that changed a few years ago. If we win out, our conference record is 7-1. If Toledo wins out (except NIU), there conference record is 7-1. We go to the MACC because of head to head tiebreaker. The fact that we would be 5-0 in the division to Toledo's 4-1 does not factor in determining who goes to the MACC.

There is no if we lose tomorrow. We can't lose tomorrow. If we lose tomorrow we are done. However, if we get get past Miami, which I personally think we will because we are at home, we really only have 1 hurdle left before the Toledo game, and that is CMU. EMU has a pretty good team, but I do not see the, coming into our house and beating us. So tomorrow is about as big of a game as it gets.

GO HUSKIES!
Leave everything out on the field!
Ya we gunna win this game. Guys if the fans give up hope the players give up hope. Dont go that route. Keep your huskie pride and show up to every game. Plus remember were a much better home team than we are an away team, we definatlely have this game tomarrow. Dont worry guys. And dont let the cincinnati score against miami scare you either, cincinatti sucks.

GO HUSKIES

I was thinking it was as it was before where division record determined it, not a conference record.

The only time the participants for the MACC Game were determined by Divisional games only was when there was an odd number of teams in the MAC. The East had 7 schools and the West had 6 schools. Even though we lost Marshall and UCF, we are still at an even 12 schools so full conference records are what determines the participants. Now when Temple joins the MAC in 2007 we may go back to Divisional games only (which I didn't like personally.....that's also the only reason Marshall was in the 2000 MACC game instead of Miami) if we don't add another school or lose another school because we will be back to 13 schools.
We're gonna win tonight!

But I see the MAC West up for grabs. Toledo could lose to Eastern Michigan Saturday. That would make our Homecoming a really BIG game. This season could get really exciting!

Don't think the Rockets are going to let you dogs "back in" to the MAC West title. That is wishful thinking. 04-rock

Rockets you have to admit you hope we win tonight. Games are more fun when we play each other with something on the line and you win. Who likes beating us with nothing on the line 03-banghead

Gosh...It would suck if we lost to miami and beat you...and you still go to the MAC title game. We have to kill miami tonight.

Then why'd you get clobbered by Fresno State?

Besides, we are not "out" of the West Division race. If we win out, we win the title.

No MAC school could have gone to Fresno State with their backup QB and come close to beating FSU. No, not even NIU.

EMU could win the West if they win out too. So could CMU, assuming EMU loses twice, and that seems more realistic to me than EMU winning the West. CMU scares me more than NIU at this point.
