What does it take for the coaches to take BGSU seriously? USA Today/CNN Poll: BGSU 26th...yet USC and Kansas State remain in the Top 25! <img border="0" alt="[Bang Head]" title="" src="graemlins/banghead.gif" />
The coaches just don't get it. Air Force was ranked 25th last week, and are now 19th this week. Not that they don't deserve it at 5-0, but why are they 6 spots better than Bowling Green? BG leads the nation in scoring, had well over 600 yards in total offense and 71 points against a team that the Florida Gators only scored 34 points against. Add on that BG defeated 2 Big 12 teams already this year, and I don't see how they are not in the Top 25 and not as good if not better than Air Force.

More stupid logic in the Coaches Poll:

Minnesota has 37 votes and are unofficially ranked 30th. Pittsburgh has 26 votes and are unofficially ranked 33rd. What makes Minnesota better than Pittsburgh. They have identical records and Pitt beat Toledo by more. In fact, Pitt's only loss was by 2 points to Texas A&M. Pitt just beat Syracuse 48-24 in a game that was 48-10 in the 4th quarter. Pitt is definitely better than Minnesota but yet the Gophers are 3 spots and 9 votes higher than them.

Iowa goes from unranked to #20 after beating a Purdue team that not only is not ranked, but didn't get any votes in the latest poll. What makes Iowa that much better than Bowling Green?

Finally, Michigan is a very unimpressive 4-1. They are lucky to be 4-1. They did not play this weekend, yet they move up from 13th to 10th in the poll.

There are 5 teams from the Big Ten ranked in the Top 25, and another team (Minnesota) received votes. I don't think the Big Ten teams have played that well this year. NIU should have beat Wisconsin. Toledo should have beat Minnesota. WMU almost beat Purdue. Cincinnati should have beat Ohio State. Michigan should have lost to Washington and would then be 3-2. Iowa barely beat Miami. Only 2 of the above games were played on the road for the Big Ten school.

I just don't get it! I can't wait until the Big Ten school gets crushed in the Motor City Bowl by the MAC representative.
Simple Answer:

Coaches Poll: Coaches only see a few teams and only know what the media tells them about most teams.

AP Poll: Same as above, plus the Mid-West has a disproportionate share of the votes and have a strong bias toward the Big 10/11.

Reality is secondary to preception and it teams that do not have a large fan following (and hence, good media coverage, importantly including TV coverage), do not show up on the voter's radar screen.
Marshall laying an egg against VT probably doesn't help BG's chances, as the MAC's alleged marquee team looked real bad against top talent. Unfortunately for bigsue, they may be painted with the same brush. No room for error here in the MAC.

On the bright side though, once they break into the coaches poll next week, the AP will be soon to follow. (assuming of course that they can muster a win against CMU)
It is just wrong that Bg isn't ranked. I am pretty sure if Toledo had beaten Pitt and Minnehaha we would be ranked. bugs deserves some repsect. As does Marshall. Their only lose is to VATech who is a top 5 team.
Rocketfootball, CarolinaHerdon, Rockytop and Ttown,
All valid points made. The one I don't get is why are the Washington Huskies (3-2) STILL in the top 25 of both polls?????? Ya know who they've beaten?? San Jose State (and SJSU led 10-0 at the half of that one), Wyoming and Idaho...the Huskies have lost to Michigan (who isn't impressive to me) and Cal...

Washington is #22 in the AP and #18 in the coaches poll!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="mad-flaming.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="mad-flaming.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="mad-flaming.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="mad-flaming.gif" />

YOU'VE GOT TO BE JOKING!!!!!!!

Its like a friggin popularity contest for the MLB all star game.

What about Miami?? These guys are 4-2 and played a very difficult OOC schedule including 2 top 25 teams (LSU and Iowa)...North Carolina and Cincinnati also; 3 of them on the road...I feel the Redhawks should be at least getting some votes

Fellas, we need to keep beating the big boys on a consistent basis...losing 11 out of 11 to the big preTENd hurt us this year...and I thought we'd win 4 or 5 of them.

GO BG!! GO MAC!!
